Reviews of West End Living Apartments
"I went here for a tour and this woman was so rude to me I didn’t even get to your the apartment. She seemed annoyed that I showed up at my scheduled time while she was taking her lunch. She kept calling me rude and said “this isn’t gonna work”. I’m glad I didn’t rent from here considering the horrible reviews let alone how I was treated on a first impression."
"Lived here for two years and moved out this week. The only reason they can charge the price they do is the location. The laundry room is a nightmare, which I don’t know if it’s necessarily managements fault or if they use another company to run that, but there’s a washer that’s constantly broken and doesn’t fill up the basin with water. I’ve submitted work orders about it, but they just respond to me in a day saying it’s fixed, but then my clothes come out dry the next time i use it. I never had bug problems personally. I’d see roaches on occasion, but they were constantly “treating” it and inspecting every apartment to make sure we weren’t leaving food out. If you have any kind of maintenance issue, it’s a struggle to get through to them. I understand management and maintenance is busy, but they would tell me it’s getting fixed tomorrow just so I’d hang up the phone, then a week would go by, Id hear nothing. Id call again and then they’d say it would get done today. When I called the office asking them to be more transparent about when maintenance would be coming and going from my apartment she told me that if I came down there and saw how busy she was as a one person office I wouldn’t say that. The garbage disposal never worked and constantly clogged. Shower drain constantly clogged. The windows were painted shut which is definitely a fire code hazard. Paint is so cheap and thin it scratched unbelievably easily and was constantly peeling. There’s paint stains all over the floor and the “tile” is peeling up collecting gross debris that’s impossible to clean in the corners. Overall, considering they manage three properties I would say the staff is overworked and they need more office managers. The only reason it gets 2 starts not 1 is location, and for the majority of my lease it was at least affordable for the area. Don’t sign for anything more than $1100 here."
"Read the other reviews and then stay away. They need to tear these buildings down or seriously renovate. I had the same experiences other residents had--unresolved cockroach infestation, leaky pipes, nonworking washer/dryers, paper thin floors and walls, lackluster heating...I'm amazed they're up to code with the city. The staff are nice and mean well, but that doesn't matter. Behind the nice demeanor, their company operates structurally like all other landlords in our society. They're parasites who will take what they can from you however they can. Stay away."
"The allure of West End Living lies in the price and the location of the properties. I was shown a one-bedroom apartment in Fairfax, just steps away from Hillsboro Village's shops and restaurants. I locked in a price at under $1200, which is almost unheard of that close to downtown. Not long after moving in, found out why it might've been priced so low. There were roaches and crickets everywhere. There was hardly a day I tried to cook in my kitchen that I didn't see at least one roach crawling around. I had to buy plastic containers to put foods away in my own pantry. Leaving fruit on the counter was out of the question. I pre- washed every utensil before using it. They sprayed, they did "clean-outs" (which involved me taking everything out of my kitchen so they could spray more), nothing worked. The people that work there are fine, frankly I got into it with the manager because they didn’t disclose all the move-out procedure information and I had to pay more, but otherwise they’re nice enough. When they tried to raise my rent, they heard my reasoning why I did not think it should be raised up. Sometimes it would take multiple emails to get a maintenance request filled, though. If you don't mind roaches, go for it. Just know that you will be dealing with them every day."
"I had a very bad 11.5 months at Natchez Village. My first floor studio apartment was well-priced but infested with roaches when I moved in. I repeatedly requested an exterminator treat the apartment, but only after three requests did the property manage tell me that the exterminator couldn't do anything while my cats were in the apartment. So three weeks went by in which nothing was done because she wouldn't communicate with me. Eventually I gave up trying to get the property manager to do anything and laid traps (out of reach of my cats) on my own. No effect. I couldn't open a door or drawer in the whole apartment without at least one roach scurrying away, and walking into the kitchen at night was like walking into a horror movie. In addition to the issues with bugs, I had persistent water damage from the apartment above me that started with buckets of water "raining" down from the ceiling in my bathroom. Maintenance brought an industrial fan to try the ceiling and patched it up. Unsurprisingly, the leaks continued, and I had to call emergency maintenance two more times. Every fix was just a band-aid. Maintenance and the property manager blamed the person in the apartment above me, but the property manager admitted that she had never asked the person living there to stop flooding their shower. When I moved out—slightly early because I was willing to pay the last weeks of rent at Natchez and at my new location just so I could get out—it became just how dank and moldy the apartment was. Spending time in my new apartment made it quite clear that many of my health issues could be traced back to the mold and roaches at Natchez Village. This complex is attractive due to its excellent location and reasonable price (for the area), but be prepared for your living conditions to be an absolute nightmare. I've never been so ready to leave a place."
