Reviews of Vanderbilt Midwives Melrose
"Midwives have been nice so far, but I switched to Melrose after my last pregnancy with the Vandy Birth Center because no one at the BC ever answered the phone and call-backs were delayed sometimes for multiple days. Well, turns out Melrose is also incapable of answering phones. So on top of Vanderbilt's TERRIBLE billing department, they also seem to have very poor patient communication skills. When dealing with Vandy, many phone calls are redirected to a call center - can you imagine? What kind of care is that?? It's like I'm dealing with Comcast customer service. If my husband didn't work at Vandy, I would absolutely go elsewhere."
"Honestly, it entirely depends on the midwife you get for your pregnancy and delivery care. Most of the providers were wonderful, but the bad one made me never want to have kids again. I have a healthy bmi, only gained 25 lbs through my pregnancy, and walked/ran 5x a week up till week 38 when I would have sharp pain anytime I moved at a moderate pace. I explained this to my midwife and told her that’s why I’m not exercising at week 38. I was still getting plenty of movement in my every day mind you. She proceeded to shame me and told me “you really need to be exercising”. Also incorrectly measured my fundal height, suggesting something was wrong with the baby and ordered an ultrasound. My baby was perfectly healthy. Fast forward to delivery and guess who is my midwife. I had labored at home till I was 6 centimeters. She did not help at all until 12 hours later and I had only dilated one more centimeter, despite me telling her my body was wanting to bear down. Her “help” was putting me in extremely painful positions because my contractions on the monitor were “irregular” even though I was counting regular contractions. I got an epidural at hour 38 of labor and a different midwife. 1.5 hours later I was 12 centimeters and pushing. If you have other options, consider them. Idk if it’s worth the risk of getting a harmful midwife. At no point did she listen to me. She came in on day 2 of my hospital care to check in and again told me how I needed to keep my body moving after I explained how I was trying to rest. Even though I was moving my body! Idk what I did to this women but I genuinely believed she didn’t like me and wanted me to suffer. If it weren’t for the epidural and new midwife, I would have been getting a c-section and who knows what else."
"I have had two babies and the Vanderbilt Midwives were my providers for prenatal, labor and delivery, and postpartum care. They are excellent! I had a great experience for both of my pregnancies. The midwives are knowledgable, caring, compassionate, and they skillfully guided me through two vaginal deliveries. I highly recommend this midwifery practice."
"I should have read the reviews :( I had a very bad 1st experience due to a scheduling issue. The lady at the front was SO rude but I figured she was just frustrated about the scheduling issue so I dropped it and waiting for my second appointment. My second appointment started off good but quickly became an entire appointment about my weight. We never spoke about anything other than how big I am and then they proceeded to give me an unsolicited nutritional class. They made me feel like I was worth nothing. I was so shocked I couldn't event speak the rest of the appointment I just nodded my head and agreed to everything so I could get out as fast as I could. I thought midwives we're suppose to be more caring and understanding. If they would take a moment to acknowledge the symptoms of PCOS (which is in my chart that i have) weight gain and issues losing weight is one of the top symptoms. If I needed a nutritional class I would ask for it. I am a very educated woman, I know how to portion control and take care of myself. It's not my fault that I have an hormonal imbalance that fights against me. I'm looking for a new provider. Picture attached to show how "severely obese" I am."
"I’m glad I listened to my friend who has been attended by them twice. They performed beyond my expectations. Explained everything to me during my first visit, Twas easy to reach them about any concern just by texting via the app & whenever I called, they never failed to call back. They were very accommodating when I called to inform them I was in labor. I was listened & attended with a lot of dignity by people who loved what they were doing. I highly recommend then & wont hesitate going there again."
