Reviews of Vanderbilt Birth Center
"I cannot say enough amazing things about my birth experience at Vanderbilt Birth Center. After much research I decided pretty late in my pregnancy that a minimal intervention birth (if possible) seemed like the best decision for me personally, and the birth center appeared to be great option due to its partnership with Vanderbilt Hosptial-in the event the resources at the hospital were required. My husband and I moved to Nashville when I was 35 weeks pregnant (first baby) and the midwives at the center welcomed us with open arms. All of my prenatal appointments were very through, and the midwives helped answer any questions and ease any anxiousness I was having (Midwife Laci Spengler went above and beyond to support me during a blood draw that I was anxious about). The midwives were excellent in helping us determine when to come to the center during active labor. Because of their expertise I was able to labor at home in a familiar environment for the majority of my labor. Upon arriving to the birth center, I was in a great spot to be admitted. Jenissa Saadat was with us for the majority of the labor and then midwife Sarah Kelsey and Lilliam Hofer delivered our perfect baby. Each of these women were truly incredible. The transition was seamless between midwives when there was a shift change, and we felt safe and cared for the entire time. The calming birth center environment and relaxing tub were essential to pain management. The postpartum care from nurse Kate and midwife Alys Moore was also amazing. I could go on and on! If you are considering a minimal intervention birth in a peaceful environment, I would strongly encourage you to check out the birth center!"
"Sad that I have to come here to share my nasty experience at this hospital two years later because patient relations can’t afford to call me back! What was suppose to be the most beautiful day of my life turned into me having a panic attack. I have yet to be told who the nurse was who looked at me and my husband dead in the face and said “you can go home but he’s not going anywhere” about the baby I JUST gave birth to. Disgusting attitude. The head nurse came in and calmed the situation but I’ve yet to hear about the nurse getting wrote up. Sorry as hell."
"This was my first birth - and it was the best healthcare experience I’ve ever had. At first, my husband was a little hesitant (let’s be honest so was I) but we both quickly realized the professionalism and great competence of the Nurse Midwives after seeing them react perfectly when I passed out during a blood drawing at one of my first appointments. After I gave birth, my husband told me he was brought to tears by witnessing the power of women coming around each other during labor. My first appointment was virtual, and Alys answered every single question and concern I had about their safety protocols and their statistics on transfer rates with confidence. I asked all of the hard questions and was impressed by their protocols. Around 6 weeks, I thought I was having a miscarriage and Emily answered my frantic call to the birth center. She was the most compassionate and calming person and walked me through that. She got me an appointment the very next day to ensure everything was okay with the baby. I failed my first gestational diabetes test, and had to do the second test that had four blood drawings. I got to lay in one of the king-size beds in one of the birthing suites and Alicia made me feel right at home. I got to take a nap in the bed and I felt like I was in a hotel room. During my actual labor and delivery, It was way harder than I thought it would be. But having the fortune of laboring in a space that was so comfortable and private made a big difference. I would not have made it without my personal Doula or the nitrous oxide(!!) they provided at the Birth Center. My daughter had the cord wrapped around her neck, and Melan acted swiftly to somersault her so that she wasn’t hurt. I had a second-degree tear and Melan stitched me perfectly. After birth, my daughter needed some extra monitoring at Vanderbilt Medical, and Jenissa personally walked us into the hospital and got us situated in our room with the nurse there. Never once did I feel shame for my weight, for any questions that I had, or feeling like I was imposing. At every step of the way, I was empowered, encouraged, and taken care of with the utmost care. I relied on the nurse midwives to help me come up with a birth plan, and to take care of myself and my baby with evidence-based statistics. I am so grateful for every single interaction I had at the Vanderbilt Birth Center and I wish every woman had the opportunity to experience the tender-loving professional care I received here. Thank you Emily, Melan, Alys, Grace, Alicia, Kate, Janessa, Janina, Kristin, Heather, Sarah, Laura, Donica, Taneesha!"
"Being a certified birth doula, I want to make sure my clients have a safe, comfortable place to labor. This place gives them the feeling of being at home with nurse midwives who are just up the street from the hospital in case there ever were a medical emergency. I love working with all of the midwives. They make both me and my clients feel welcomed each and every time. Thank you for always providing some of the best holistic care and for making us feel like family! - Jessica Easter"
