Reviews of Perimeter Behavioral Hospital
"i stayed here for maybe more than a week and i really did not like it there were kids as young as eight mixed in with almost adult teenagers just stuck in the dayroom all day watching some random movie we couldnt go back to our rooms to just lay down without a doctors note and the doctor was NEVER IN so everyone was either sleeping on the Very Dirty floor or fighting the younglings for crayons lots of arguing both between kids and the kids with techs, the techs did NOT care about how we felt, and were always just writing down what we were doing every 15 minutes or getting on someones case. the night staff were a bit better, but the day techs were just irritated with us all the time and that stupid counting in line rule when lined we have to say our place in line when we go theough the door and if we didnt theyd make us go back and do it again. The only place we really went was the cafeteria, where the food was kind of decent. i mostly just got the turkey sandwich and they got on me so bad about it. We werent let outside very often. Around twice in my stay, which was ~14 days. Not cool. i was stuck in there over halloween and all we did was color in some paper masks and play games in the gym. there were prizes for tickets , but some of the prizes were just kinda odd. Socks. Hand sanitizer . Lotion. Crazy i think The beds were very uncomfortable. Hard plastic frame with a gym mat. Mine was always kind of damp and smelled like cleaner too. And the shower in my bathroom was always BOILING HOT because it didnt turn off all the way. The dayroom chairs were the same plastic, but filled with sand. Very heavy. Not comfortable. The dayroom felt like a prison dayroom with all the crayon marks and peeled paint. I want to wrap this up by saying I, a Mentally Ill Kid, didnt like this place. Nobody did. Techs hated their jobs. Nurse got so mad at me for not being ready to have a needle stuck in me once. Everybody hated it generally. Dont send your mentally ill kids here"
"I was here recently and I would never put a child in that facility if my life depended on it. The people there (staff included) will not hesitate to bully you. The staff will cuss you out and some are even willing to fight if you are aggressive. On the way to meals you have to say a number which you are in line and if you don’t you get written up. You have to say the rules in line or you get written up. When I was there some of the kids said it was worse than juvi. All you do all day is school, you don’t do groups or anything. and for the females you have to face the wall and put your head down as if you’d get pregnant by looking at a male. this place is complete and utter torture. I went without a pillow for multiple days. NEVER send a child here if you love them."
"Boy oh Boy do I wish I would have listened to all reviews before I got hired. This place expects you to be there ALL the time. They bug you about coming in on ALL of your days off. Management is horrible. They can't keep staff and make you work your shift shorthanded. These are kids that threaten to kill staff and yet management are ok with you watching more kids than what the state requires. Staff show up high and drunk. Management has favorites and allow those people to have special privileges. Please keep searching for a job. This is a waste of time. They pay $14.50 a hour to deal with kids who would hurt you if they get a chance. Your life is worth more than $14.50 a hour"
"I never say anything negative about anywhere publicly, but I will this. I was recently going through a rough patch and was in search of help. I ended up at Perimeter. When I first arrived everyone seemed overly nice and professional. This quickly changed. The nurses are almost all down to earth and overall good people, they’re good at their jobs. I can’t say the same for the majority of the techs. The bad ones outnumber the good ones tremendously. When someone is struggling the way I was, they need a positive atmosphere. Perimeter is most definitely not positive. There was no therapy done. They put everyone in the “Dayroom” and turn on the TV and expected that to help. There were kids as young as 6 in there with 17 year olds. The only time you leave the “Dayroom” is when you go to the cafeteria. 6 year olds have a lot of energy, they need to let it out, they can’t do that being forced to sit in a room all day everyday. Some of the male staff made me extremely uncomfortable, one looked at me and asked my age, when I told him, his response was “that’s old enough to be a mom.” Everyone standing around me was speechless. There was an 11 year old boy, he was an extremely picky eater, he talked to me about his life, and it was really sad. He didn’t want to eat supper one night, and because the staff yelled at him and said “if you don’t like the food here then you should’ve stayed home” he was rightfully upset. When you get in a line to go somewhere they make you count, the person in the front is 1 and the second is 2, so on and so forth. The 11 year old was still crying and he didn’t want to say his number, keep in mind it was his first day there. Instead of the techs trying to calm him down they yelled at him, which only upset him more. Eventually a female tech pushed the 11 year old boy into the wall and got in his face and SCREAMED at him. It was my last night there, it was heartbreaking to witness. They don’t tell you the time. I had seen drawings on the wall where kids had drawn their own clocks. There was much more inappropriate writing all over everything, no 6 year old should have had to see it. They would threaten the younger kids with more time if they acted out. An 8 year old boy looked at me and said “when they ask me if I feel suicidal I lie so I can get out and make my mommy happy” nobody deserves to feel that way, especially an 8 year old. On my last night there I looked at one of the nurses and said “This place is like a prison” she said “yes it is and you shouldn’t come back” Some of the nurses are what made that place bearable. The techs would write down what each patient was doing every 15 minutes. It felt like we were all lab rats. Being watched and talked about but not talked to. The therapists knew how to put on a show for the parents, the one time they talked to me it was for a “family session” basically they called my mom and we all sat down and talked. I told the therapist exactly what I needed to do to get out of there. I’m pretty smart, so I knew what they wanted to hear. I was around the doctor himself for probably a total of 5 minutes in the 7 days I was trapped there. The doctor is the one that decides the release date, he looks at paperwork and then decides what is best for the patient. He doesn’t really look AT the patients. There were times that we weren’t even allowed to brush our teeth in the morning. At the end of my “treatment” they diagnosed me with “major depressive disorder” I agree that you can learn a lot about a person by watching them, but if you want to see into someone’s mind you have to talk TO them. I was admitted for “suicidal ideations” but on my “safety plan” for when I was released it said “suicidal ideations and a plan to end her life” I never had a plan. I was struggling tremendously and I went to get help before it reached the point of a “plan.” Before you send your child here to get help with their mental health think about if it’s gonna do more harm than good. Perimeter doesn’t help it harms. Places like perimeter are what make people scared to ask for help."
"I am a kid that stayed at perimeter for maybe 10 days. And the staff there is horrible, and rude. The place seems like it's poor and there's writing all over the walls from previous kids. Things like "you will die" or "help me" . You basically stay Inna room all day doing nothing for hours on end. During my entire stay there I only got to see the therapist once. Instead of helping they fill your system with meds that practically make you high all the time. One of the nurses even messed up my meds and gave it to me in the morning when it's supposed to be given at night. This place is absolutely horrible, the only reason I got "better" was due to the fact I hated it so much there that I never wanted to go back so I forced myself to be better. I don't not in any way shape or form recommend this place for you or your child."
