Reviews of Belz Museum of Asian and Judaic Art
"This museum is truly amazing and deserving of 10 stars, if I was able to give that many. The exhibits are spectacular and worth taking the time to go see. My only criticism is that the person who was working at the ticket counter/gift shop could not have been less welcoming…just generally unfriendly and treated us like we were a bother. Even so, you won’t regret making time to go through the museum."
"The Belz Museum of Asian & Judaic Art is an incredible hidden gem in Memphis. As I walked through the exhibits, I was struck by the diversity and beauty of the art on display. The museum features an extensive collection of Asian art, including pieces from China, Japan, India, and Southeast Asia, as well as a large collection of Judaic art, including works from ancient to modern times. The Asian collection includes a wide range of mediums, from traditional ink paintings and porcelain pottery to contemporary sculptures and installations. The museum's collection of Judaic art is equally impressive, featuring a diverse range of objects, including religious texts, ceremonial objects, and fine art. What I found most impressive about the museum was the way it seamlessly blends different cultures and time periods. The curators have done a wonderful job of creating a cohesive narrative that highlights the similarities and differences between the two cultures and how they have influenced each other over time. The Belz Museum of Asian & Judaic Art is a unique and enlightening experience. It offers visitors the opportunity to learn about the art, culture, and history of two vastly different regions of the world. I highly recommend visiting this museum for anyone interested in art, culture, and history. Overall, the Belz Museum of Asian & Judaic Art is a must-see destination for anyone interested in art, culture, and history. It offers a unique and enlightening experience for visitors to learn about the art and culture of two vastly different regions of the world."
"Absolutely loved this hidden gem of the Memphis Art Scene!!! Great staff, but even better exhibits. The level of detail in the tusk carvings is insane! A nice Holocaust remembrance exhibit too. The artifacts are dated to the era in which they were likely created. And any available info is provided. Craziest thing to me is that the staff told my group that this only represents 10% or less of the art they hold currently."
"This museum looks unassuming from the outside, but don’t be fooled. The collection of jade and Asian work is outstanding! It’s a quiet, peaceful museum (so was a great way to spend a hot summer afternoon). If you enjoy looking at art this is $5 well spent, the detail on the pieces kept us busy for several hours. I also really enjoyed the Holocaust memorial exhibit with the stories."
"The Judiaca fell a bit flat with me as I'm not an expert in that area, but some of the paintings are very nice & humorous regardless. They could be better lit, as some were hard to see because they're shiny and the light reflected from them. The Asian collection is huge and amazing no matter what you know. Elaborately carved mammoth tusks, giant hunks of jade skillfully carved, horses and camels and carriages and large birds made of stone, life size bronze warriors, Xing dynasty imperial robes, tapestries with the most amazing silk embroidery... I'm probably leaving out some important stuff. Don't get there an hour before closing."
