Reviews of Base Camp
"Butter chicken - my favorite dish here, perfectly balanced spices and flavors. Most butter chicken I’ve eaten around the area is just really orange which can fool you into thinking it’s packed with flavor, until you eat it and realize it’s all just food color. Also probably the first one I’ve had here in a while that wasn’t crazy sweet like they all end up being at restaurants. Rich, creamy and flavorful. 10/10 Garlic naan - soft and fluffy, could use a bit more garlic because you can just never have too much. 8/10 Pork ribs - falls right off the bone, cooked to perfection, love the gravy. It came with tingmo which is a steamed bread - also delicious. 9/10 beautiful surprise of a place. Loved the food. Would definitely eat from here again. Update- took a star off, got takeout another time and the food didn’t taste nearly as good. We got butter chicken, naan, rice again and also decided to try the pork momos. Didn’t enjoy them much. The whole meal was 6/10"
"My first Nepali restaurant experience. Very unique, compared to the food I know, it's similar to Indian cuisine, but with a twist. Food ordered: Naan, Goat curry, Pork rib curry. + (10/10) The naan was so buttery, the exterior was crispy and the interior was a little fluffy yet still had structure. + (9/10)Goat curry was pretty good. The meat was very tender but not falling apart. It's also not too funky, which I like. + (7.5/10) I like the steamed bun that came with the pork rib curry more than the ribs themselves. + Service was very good, very tentative, offered to pack my leftovers. - The front door sometimes won't close, so the cold air from outside blew through was not something I enjoyed."
"You need to run not walk to this restaurant! One of my new favourite spots in SF. Everything on the menu was perfection. I've never had Nepalese food but all the flavours popped. From the different spices and textures, everyone was moaning with every bite. We made a reservation, went in a big group, ordered family style, and licked the plates clean. The onion fritters were super crispy. Be warned the cauliflower plate is actually spicy. The butter chicken was some of the best I've had. But the star of the show was the Kale Chaat. Very friendly staff, extremely reasonable prices. Big portion sizes. You will not leave disappointed from this place."
"It has become our favorite Nepal restaurant. Been here many times starting this year when we found out they are open regularly back to the schedule. We tried all the sharable dishes (except some marinated in cilantro). All their momos have a soft wrap with delicious dipping creamy sauce, but the vegetable version is our favorite. Great job to "hide" coriander flavor in the veggie momos. We just tried chow-mein. Sounds like Chinese chow-mein on the menu, but it is tastier. Curry dishes with naan are very good too. Just too filling for us. Great chai and you can add sugar on your own."
