Reviews of Herb & Wood
"We were a group of 8 for dinner. The place is very loud, you could not even hear the person sitting across you. The food portions (excluding the pizza) were small and tasted okay. Nothing extraordinary. Our server was great though, she kept giving us recommendations and was checking in every now and then. A couple of items we ordered were the hummus (was good), lamb shawarma pizza (came as a recommendation but I did not enjoy it), oxtail gnocchi and the chili."
"One of the most interesting dining experiences I've ever had. My wife and I went to dinner here recently. Initial impression was good, but short lived. The restrooms are for some reason designed to look like a house on the outside, with windows and all. These windows go directly into the restrooms from the dining room. Unfortunately we were given the table directly under the window to the women's restroom, with the window open. About 10 minutes into dinner we enjoyed a nice pot smell as someone was smoking in the bathroom. Really unpleasant and quite baffling as to why any place would be designed like this. As for the food, it was ok. The best part of the meal was the Parker House Rolls. Pasta was good. The stuffed pepper was too spicy too eat in my opinion. To the owner, shut the windows to the restrooms and move that table. No one wants to eat in the bathroom."
"One of the worst experiences I’ve had in awhile dining out. Where do I even begin, the ambiance was fine, but the music selection was like an older parents idea of “hip music”..a mix of terrible edm and dance. The food was basic American fare with nothing of note in terms of flavor or preparation. The capers sauce on the chicken was a terrible pairing and would have been more suitable for fish. And finally, our server. My god..what a weird human being. He spoke only when taking our order and not a single word the rest of the night. Just brought out our food, made a little gesture with his hands like “here you go” and nothing else. All with an air of nonchalance and indifference. Of all the disappointing places we tried to San Diego, herb & wood stands out as the biggest waste of our $ and time."
"Everything was amazing! Exceeded my expectations. The food was so colourful and flavourful. Our server was really great and quick. We sat at the chefs table to watch the kitchen. I will definitely return and highly recommend it. Prices are also reasonable for the quality and service. Thank you!"
"I had high expectations going into my visit here, and my experience exceeded those lofty expectations. Atmosphere was fun, modern, and comfortable. Menu isn’t huge, but extremely well executed. Came here for my spouse’s birthday and the staff did an amazing job to help make her day extraordinary. Chef Carlos and his staff went out of their way to make her feel welcome and special. Beyond the service, food was excellent. Gnocchi for an entree and the goat cheese appetizer were particularly good. Would 100% come here again. Should you visit too? Absolutely! Be sure to save room for the divine desserts!"
