Reviews
"I want to preface this review by saying we did have 17 people for breakfast on our visit. The staff and our server were very nice and accommodating. No complaints there. We were dining in for breakfast. We arrived at 9am right when it opened and were seated immediately. The issue is not service at all. The issue was the food. It was breakfast - the restaurant was not busy, and they had just opened. So it was hard for us to understand why the food was cold. The hashbrowns were cold, the sausage was cold. The only thing really hot was the coffee. I ordered English muffin it was the tiniest English muffin I have ever seen and cut uneven. My friend ordered biscuits and gravy. The biscuits looked like small tiny flat discs. And the gravy was sub-par and cold. Note that we did not report any of these issues during our visit. As we did not want to seem difficult. But also because I don’t think the remedy would have been different. We ate because we were hungry…the food was edible but just not great. Again service was excellent…just breakfast needs a re-boot or just open for lunch and dinner. Also - I would suggest a bathroom remodel - it smelled old. BTW…I should have bought a pie…as they looked amazing."
"Marie Calenders started in my home town so it has a special place in my heart. Having said that the food was good as it has always been. The pies are tasty as ever. The staff was friendly and did a fine job. I think they need to prove and update the menu choices. Also the restaurant is still stuck in the 70's. Literally I get that their clientele is largely in their 50s to 80s but playing 70's music? Any light jazz would be preferable. I fear they are not going to be around much longer if they can't attract a younger crowd soon. **Update 9/16/23 I had dinner with my wife at Marie Callanders tonight. We both had the mini Shepard's pie salad and pie. This was a great deal at $16.it was not a large meal but just right in size. We both enjoyed the meal. 2-18-24 we ordered the chicken pot pie salad and pie deal tonight. Again the food was good and our waiter was a bit of a character, which made for an enjoyable meal."
"My mom and I came on a Wednesday because she likes the older crowd and the buy one entree and two drinks, get a free entree coupons she gets via email. We've gone several times for lunch and I have been pleasantly surprised by the food. Honestly, I had low expectations but the food is pretty decent. My favorite is the shrimp tacos, healthy and tasty. This last time my mom got the roast beef dip sandwich, but she usually gets the roasted turkey plate. Also, on our last visit they were short-staffed so there was a little bit of a wait, but the waitress was calm, cool, and collected and I appreciated her responsiveness considering the circumstances. I am not a huge fan of sweets, but next time I will grab a pie or cornbread because the display case looked like it had some great tasting stuff."
"Got a chicken pot pie, shepherds pie, some salads, and two slices of pie. The shepherds pie was super flavorful and delicious! The chicken pot pie was good. The chocolate satin pie is phenomenal and the rhubarb was amazing! My kids had never had rhubarb pie before and both of them loved it!"
"Stopped in 2 days ago to buy a pie, as it had been a while since I had one. I ordered a banana cream pie, was a bit surprised they showed the calorie content but not the price, up on the board. It rang up at $20 but I've always enjoyed their pies in the past so I payed it. Got it home and served up a couple of slices and was a bit disappointed with the texture but thought it might be because it took a half hour before I got home and put it in my fridge. Went to serve up another slice to night and upon opening the box, it looked more like banana soup than pie. Very disappointed all around on this last visit."
