"The service was GREAT all around, really friendly staff! Perfect location for our concert needs. The beds were comfortable, the pillows the right kind of squishy but solid cushiony. Rooms were different sizes, and even though we had the smallest out of the three couples, it was plenty of room for my wife and I. The elevator was a smooth ride. The Keurig machine and coffee was a pleasant surprise, as was the big panel to plug into the TV with different kinds of input. Our friends enjoyed the breakfast, and all of us enjoyed the bar. We're definitely coming back here and staying more nights, and recommended it to the rest of our friends for their next visit. Just know you gotta park nearby in one of the garages or rent a spot, because they don't currently have parking."
"I stayed at the Shattuck during the Christmas break. The breakfast downstairs is not good. The room was good and our stay was not bad. You can hear your neighboring rooms but there weren’t a lot of people at the hotel. My biggest issues was I left at least 8 shirts and sweaters hanging in the closet by accident. When I called to ask if they were found I was told they would look for the clothes and call me back. I never got a call back and after calling for 3 days I talked to lost and found. They said the clothes were not found. Hard to believe when you have this many shirts hanging in the closet. I didn’t appreciate the run around and lack of follow up. I will make sure to double check the closet next time and stay at the Residence Inn when I go to Berkeley."
"Very good customer service. I received a kind welcome and issue-free late check-in without needing to ask for a late check-in. I was told they hold the room until 3 am. The room was very clean and comfortable. Decent shower. Comfortable bed. All the necessary room amenities but no microwave or refrigerator (which I didn’t need anyway). I had read other reviews about issues with bed bugs, but those issues are in the past. I saw no sign of any pests anywhere. (Plus any travelers can easily check the bed bug hotel registry, where hotel Shattuck is not listed.) The hotel was quaint and quiet. Location was great, within short walking distance to Freight & Salvage, where I was headed. There is no onsite parking, but there is a large handy garage across the street. My parking cost me $36 overnight. Really affordable rate; great value for the 4-star level, especially on a weekend before Thanksgiving. I really liked this hotel and would stay there again."
"Positives: Good location right near Bart station. Friendly staff. Clean enough. Negatives: Questionable maintenance. Room had faulty main light that would randomly turn off for periods, then come back on (both bulbs were fine); one window was nearly impossible to completely close; heater unit seemed to only blow cold air; desk drawer continually slowly and annoyingly rolled open against lap; chair hydraulics disabled or broken."
"The two inch gap under the adjoining door meant I could hear every word of my neighbor's indoor-voice conversations and phone calls. Shoving a towel in there did nothing. Overall the hotel is pretty and walkable, especially to BART, but rooms are not quiet and need some work. I wish I had read the other reviews that mentioned noise issues. I was also disappointed (but I guess unsurprised) that I called after realizing I left a personal item behind, and it mysteriously never materialized."
