Reviews of Hinata Sushi Kitchen
"We had a nice lunch here! The food quality is pretty good for a sushi buffet in the East Bay. The nigiri didn’t have way too much rice, which is a good sign. Will come back when I’m super hungry for sushi. Definitely worth the money. Sad to see that all you can drink for additional $5 is not offer anymore, but it’s ok- as I’m not a big drinker. Friendly customer service."
"We came for all-you-can-eat sushi, which comes in at under $30/person for lunch most weekdays, before tax/tip. I like that there is a spacious free parking lot nearby. We arrived a little after 12:30pm, and the restaurant remained really packed for hours afterward. By the time we left, there was still a dozen people in the lobby waiting for seats to open. Although it took 15-20min for the waitress to take our very first order, she was pretty good about regularly coming back once the first dish finally made it onto our table. Food itself was unfortunately just ok. Many rolls were disproportionally rice-, mayo-, and sauce-heavy. None of our sushi today came with tobiko, listed on the menu descriptions. Lion King roll was likewise heavy on mayo and rice. Shrimp tempura had an excellent crisp, but the shrimp themselves are very thin and small, making for batter- and oil-heavy bites. Inari nigiri were basic, thin, and tasted too sweet. I found a fish scale in my tuna nigiri. Eggplant skewers were also too sweet- slathered in teriyaki sauce. Pork skewers were too fatty- 3/4 slices were overwhelmingly fat, with pork meat comprising less than 20% of the slice. Miso soup was low on miso and higher on salt to compensate. Tea and soft drinks cost extra, so we made do with hot water. The waitresses were really kind and friendly, but due to the flavors and textures of the food, I wouldn't come back in the future."
"I was a little hesitant at first because going by the reviews, the experiences were hit and miss. We went on a weeknight and the dining room was only about half full. The quality of the food was actually very good IMO. Staff was friendly and the dining room was comfortable and clean. The sashimi overall was very fresh, we ordered the sashimi platter and the mystery box. They oysters tasted very fresh too. The rolls were also on par with a good sushi house so there were no complaints from the kids. As we walked in I looked at the fish at the sushi bar and everything looked well stocked and fresh. The staff was actually very attentive and didn’t hold us to any reordering time checks. In fact, for us they often came back while we were still eating and asked us if we were ready to order our next round. We definitely didn’t feel like we were restricted and we were all full when we were done. I really liked the dining room because it isn’t overly packed. There was room between you and other patrons around you. I appreciate that because it just makes for a more pleasant eating experience. There also was a balcony that wasn’t used while we were there. Not sure if that’s used when it’s busier but it’s wired that the tables and chairs there are very low to the ground. As for value, I would say this is a good value if you can avoid the peak times so the food arrives quickly and the you are able to order at your leisure. What we spent was not that much more than what our family would spend on a typical Japanese restaurant outing so this is definitely someplace that we would come back to in the future."
"We went for the 90 minute lunch Buffett. You're only allowed to order six dishes total for the table. Everything is made to order, which was a nice surprise and helps eliminates waste. We did not upgrade to the premium which includes alcoholic and soft drinks. Also you can opt for the dinner menu, which expands the menu. The variety of food is quite nice. I enjoyed getting skewers and glad they had them. In general sushi orders take quite a bit of time to fulfill and having quicker options are nice. It would be nice to have a choice between sauced and not sauced for the skewers to add some variety. That should be easy to include. They have sushi rolls, nigiri's, and hand rolls. Most are popular rolls that you will easily recognize. To help save time they pre-cut the fish. So the rolls come out pretty quickly with the army of 4 rollers taking on 10+ tables. Outside there is a cool garden area where you can take photos or buy plants. The luncheon ended with two very very full bellies."
"Came here on a Friday night around 6 pm and there were a couple tables available inside but you could tell it was starting to get busy. We got the adult ayce premium which for $5 more you get unlimited beer, sake, and soft drinks. The beer was whatever they had available. Service was great, our server checked in on us about 3 times during the 90 minute window, so I feel like ordering at ultra is a bit quicker. The sashimi and food was pretty solid, with my favorites being the toro nigiri and sashimi. We ordered other sushi rolls but they were just ok nothing too crazy. There are a lot of parking lots near the restaurant so parking is no problem here, you also either take the stairs or elevator up. This place is pretty good for ayce sushi, but I definitely wouldn’t wait too long to eat here."
