Reviews of Savi's Workshop – Handbuilt Lightsabers
"This won’t be a long review but it will be accurate: This attraction is waaaayyyyy overpriced. Disney is preying on the diehard Star Wars fans here like they do with everything else. For over $200 you get a “custom” lightsaber (you get 4 choices, think paper or plastic at the grocery store), bad acting (Olivander’s at Universal is way better), and the most flimsy carrying case you have ever seen (it’s basically a pool noodle shoved into an extremely cheap thin fabric shell). If you want the good lightsaber case you have to go to Dok-Ondar’s next door and drop another $50. I wish I would’ve known about the lightsaber quality/aesthetics before doing this experience. So, with that being said let me save you some $$$ if you absolutely must have a lightsaber. The pre-made lightsabers sold at Dok-Ondar’s and the Star Wars Trading post are waaayyyy cooler, better built and cheaper. The only downside with the pre-made legacy sabers is that you can’t change the kyber crystal out (for obvious reasons). Darth Vader would never have a green blade etc. Hopefully this helps you all out."
"The cast is really friendly and gets into character. Extremely helpful during the build process and ensures you are well taken care of. A little pricey"
"Amazing experience where the staff are so friendly and helpful. You custom make your light saber and it’s perfect for those who love Star Wars. Have to reserve beforehand and the TSA allowed us to take the light saber through carry on."
"My husband and I did this experience a few hours before the May 4th Disneyland party. We each purchased a light saber. It was fun to get the pins, and I’m glad they gave us a carrier. There are a lot of options, and the quality of the saber is really good. Having said that, I want to echo some of the other reviews on hear that stated that, they also felt rushed. This is not a cheap experience; it’s $250. The cast member for our show was not very good. I felt like she was just reading off of the paper. I was rushed while we were building our light saber. One of the cast members assisting had to do some parts for me because they were moving so quickly. I am not a slow person. They also didn’t take time to show us how to put batteries in or how to change out the crystals. I really think that Disney needs to up their game with this. I would like to give it another try, so if I do, I will update my review. But I hope Disney reads this and takes into consideration the many people stating that it’s a rushed experience and it could be better. You can get that coin, which is considered a gift card, that I put at the end of my pictures. Each of those gift coins, you have to put at least $100 on, so we did it before we paid for our light sabers. We did it at the droid depot, and the coin does cost five dollars, but you can reload it anytime and it’s kind of fun to be in galaxies edge and use that coin."
"One of the coolest experiences I have had at Disney. I have never gotten a lightsaber before and i believe this was worth it as the character light saner by itself without the blade is already estimated $200. The blade attachment costs at least $60. I paid a total of $237, and what you get is the pin, the Hilt and 31” Blade, Carrying Case and the whole experience. Although if you are reading this, you must have seen or read how the experience is, I would just say come experience it yourself. No amount of reading or watching will let be able to give you the same experience of being in the atmosphere, the music, and the blade that forge.. The only thing I will recommend is to really think about what sort of Hilt that you want. First thing to do, make a reservation on the Disney App. Pick a time slot and then arrive 10-15 before. Check in and pick one of the Hilts, and be sure because you have to do this before you pay. There are 4 types, Peace and Justice, Power and Control, elemental nature, and protection and defense. You have to pick one and you will receive a pin depending on which one you picked. Another tip is that you sort of have to choose quite fast from the parts of the hilt, so make sure you have an idea of how you want it to look like. Lastly I would suggest that you think about what Kyber Crystal you want, blue, red, purple or green. I picked the peace and Justice, although I had picked power and control first, but decided to change for the blade to match more towards the “good” side. I thought with the power and control that it for sure had these red accents but realized there were certain parts that didn’t have red. If I do make another one I will for sure go for that one, and maybe a purple crystal. I was able to bring my family in (you get to bring 2 people with you to observe) which pretty much made this one of the “shows” that they also experienced. I hope your experience will be as great as mine after following some of these tips. Emerge in the experience, enjoy, and may the force be with you."
