Reviews of Polar Land
"Can't believe in this day and age that people can still be so racist. Especially a waiter at a restaurant located in such a diverse area. My wife came in and tried to order to go and the guy working there on March 12th at 2:50 PM had the audacity to tell her "sorry no English" in perfectly understandable broken English and wouldn't let her order. She called me to tell me what was happening and I couldn't believe my ears. I went and called them and the same guy (there's only 1 guy taking orders) took my order and even asked me if I wanted black tea or green tea. Again, in perfectly understandable English. I confronted him and he was left speachless and didn't say a single word. I hope the owner sees this and fires this guy because he does not deserve a job dealing with customers. I've been here many times and the ladies who work there are always so pleasant and nice. What triggered this from him? I would love to know. Just because my wife doesn't speak chinese? I said some unkind things to him in Chinese after I confirmed he had the ability to take an order in english and he still didn't utter a single word. This place is dead to me."
"Visited recently and had a fried fish lunch special (they have a rotating menu btw). The portion and quality was amazing, and it's only $13! Nowhere else can you find a deal like this. Great place for lunch, definitely recommend."
"The owner was very friendly and kept apologizing for orders delayed because there was an issue with the kitchen today. He gave us extra roasted eggs, seaweed and bean curd. At this time of inflation, this restaurant still give us good amount of food. And the food tastes very authentic. We will definitely come back again for the taste and the value of it's food. Even they had an issue with the kitchen today, we are still very happy with the service. Our recommendation is to get there early otherwise, you might have to wait for a table. It is a very busy restaurant because of the food and the value. Will highly recommend to friends."
"4.5 Star. Overall. Non-addicting, comfortable, authentic, genuine Taiwanese food that does not have an over-the-top sickening feel like most restaurants (if you dine out too frequently). No added MSG. A “homely” feel, good enough to stop by any day. Love the rotating lunch special menu. Would definitely add this to my “OK for regular visits” list or a convenient take-out place. 4.5 Star. Food. Daily lunch special combo offer that comes with a large green or black tea drink (add $1 to upgrade to other drinks on the menu, or add $0.50 for boba (5 star boba!)), a few small refillable side dishes (3 Star taste), and good portion for a good price. $7.95 Popcorn chicken combo, $9.95 combo of Dan Dan Mien (mildly spicy and flavorful) + meat and fish ball soup (bland and unsalted to balance out the strong flavored noodle), and the $4.95 boiled vegetables were all satisfying. Green tea is made just right with +$0.50 super chewy and soft boba. A complimentary tiny scoop of green tea ice cream with tiny spoon is served along with the bill in a small sauce container (how cute). Flavorful few small bites. I like. 3 Star. Service. Very typical Taiwanese matter-of-fact type. Don’t come in with a different set of expectation and you’ll fit right in. Other. Unattractive exterior in an unattractive plaza. Just a small, unnoticeable restaurant, but evidently a known place to many locals. Surprise to find most tables filled with lots of Taiwanese patrons on a weekday noon. Would return."
