"Food -- Below to Average quality. It lacks taste and the spiciness level was not properly communicated. The waitress wasn't able to describe the spice level properly and what we received had no taste and not spicy at all. We asked whether anything can be done, and was given a spicy sauce to add ourselves. Atmosphere -- When we dined there, water started dripping from the ceiling. The whole restaurant feels really outdated, especially for the price they are charging for their food ($40-50 per person). Parking is extremely difficult. Credit Card Charge -- Their credit card charges were not properly categorized. The category came back to show "Services" instead of "Restaurants." It messes up any cash back people are planning."
"Just tried last weekend with my family. The Malatang reminds me my school time in China. Almost the same taste as in China. My wife likes the dry pot. Definitely will come back often."
"I recently dined at Hi Pot and was thoroughly impressed with my experience. The restaurant offers a wide range of choices for hotpot, with a great selection of meats, vegetables, and other ingredients. I appreciated the variety of options, which allowed me to create a customized meal that was perfect for my taste preferences. The food was of excellent quality, with fresh ingredients that were perfectly cooked. I particularly enjoyed the spicy broth, which had just the right amount of heat and added a wonderful depth of flavor to the meal. The price was also very reasonable, considering the quality and variety of the food that was offered. Also, they offered free sweet tea. However, one area where Hi Pot could improve is in their staffing on Sundays. During my visit, it seemed like there was only one waiter on staff, which led to some delays in service. Despite this, the waiter was incredibly friendly and did his best to keep up with the demands of the restaurant. With more staff on hand, I'm sure the experience would have been even more enjoyable. Despite this minor issue, I would highly recommend Hi Pot to anyone looking for a delicious and satisfying hotpot meal. The food is of exceptional quality, with a wide range of choices that are sure to please any palate. The price is also very reasonable, making it an excellent value for the quality of food that is offered. If you're looking for a great hotpot experience, Hi Pot is definitely worth a visit."
"I really love both the drypot and hotpot here! My sister and I both don't really like mala flavor specifically so we got non spicy for both and it was still super flavorful. Plus it made it easy to drink the hot pot soup which had a garlicy creamy bone broth flavor that was super rich and tasty. I got the pork drypot and added a bunch of stuff like fish fillet (recommend), taro, fish balls with roe, and mushrooms. I don't regret adding any of these extras and I had a good amount of leftovers. I really liked the pork belly. For appetizers we got the stinky tofu which was tasty and the garlic taiwanese sausage which is a classic that I always love. The sauce was good with the stinky tofu as well. Overall I'd definitely come multiple times and I highly recommend it!"
"Talk about being surprised in a good way. I was planning to try another restaurant but ended up here instead. I came here during soft opening years ago and I wrote this restaurant off because at that time the food didn't taste good and most importantly there weren't enough frogs in the frog pot to warrant the price. I'm not sure whether they got their act together afterwards or they changed ownership/chef but the food improved dramatically. Not only is the food great tasting but also even the individual pots have enough stuff. I love the flavors. One reason the food tastes so good is because they lightly fried the food before cooking them in the pot so the flavors are baked in. It's a popular restaurant so they are definitely short staffed but be patient and the server will get to you. They also don't allow you to overextend your stay before closing time so if you go close to closing time, be prepared to eat fast. However these are so minor compared to how great the food tastes so I didn't deduct any stars off. Overall the best dry pot place in the bay area."
