"TL;DR - Excellent selection of quality fish. Hashi Gawa is a very good "middle-tier" sushi restaurant. They don't serve mediocre sashimi and huge sushi rolls like lower-tier restaurants that cater to the masses. And they don't provide a fine dining omakase experience. What you will get is excellent fish in a casual setting with reasonable prices. We came on a Saturday as soon as they opened to ensure us a table. My wife and I ordered their "Omakase" 10-piece special. Please note that it's not a true omakase experience. It is 10 nigri pieces (sashimi option also available) served all at once. The kind waitress provided all the types of fish, but it was hard to remember the order so I wasn't sure which piece was which towards the end. You will have a selection such as snapper, butterfish, salmon, salmon belly, otoro, chu-toro, ocean trout, scallop, amaebi, etc. We also ordered some extra single pieces to make sure we both had our favorites. One negative was each piece was glazed with a light soy sauce that I would have preferred not to have. The sauce masked the taste of the fish. Next time I'll ask if they can hold the sauce. Overall, I was very happy with our meal. I will go back for sure."
"This sushi place undoubtedly ranks as one of the finest gems in Alameda. Our visit on a Friday night was serendipitous, as we were seated right away, although the line started to lengthen soon after our arrival at 7 PM. Timing, as they say, is everything. One thing that truly sets this place apart is the freshness of their fish. Each piece felt like a testament to their dedication to quality sourcing. It’s that kind of commitment that elevates a sushi experience. But let’s talk about the tempura for a moment – it was nothing short of extraordinary. When the plate arrived at our table, I couldn’t help but marvel at the perfection of the frying technique. It looked, and tasted, unreal – a solid 10/10. The combination of fresh fish and expertly prepared tempura made this dining experience truly exceptional. It’s no wonder the line started to build up as the evening progressed. If you’re seeking top-notch sushi in Alameda, this place should undoubtedly be on your list. Just be sure to arrive early or prepare for a bit of a wait – it’s that good! i"
"Fresh food and quick service. Good amount of vegan options. I got the Hashi Vegan Roll and it was amazing!! My family got the dinner bento box, spider roll, and a salmon avocado roll. All were very good."
"We had a nice celebration dinner, three item bento was a lot of food. Everything was tasty and priced appropriately except the salmon nigiri which was a miss… not as delicious as I’ve had in same area and price range. Service was quick but flustered by a full house, we went on Saturday so that comes with the time slot. Would try again after trying another location."
"Very yummy! Went to the soft opening tonight, we didn't have a reservation so we couldn't sit at a table but the bar is open space so we sat there. Prompt service and we were welcomed with a traditional greeting from the sushi chef. First was salad, the mango salad dressing was a first for us and it was great, we don't usually eat the salad. The combo tempura was tasty, and our rolls were awesome, so scrumptious. We ordered the New California roll and Lion King roll. Holy Cow, the chicken teriyaki was the best we have ever had in Alameda so far. It actually tasted grilled and not just boiled. We will definitely go back"
