Reviews of Iron & Oak Restaurant and Bar
"I visited Oakland over the weekend and decided to go to Iron &Oak for a late night meal. I ordered the Chicken Cesar Salad @ the cost of $18 bucks and gave a 20% tip only to discover, after getting back to my hotel, the chicken was dry as a bone! I couldn't believe a chef would let a piece of meat come out of their kitchen in that condition, criminal! Save your money and your time."
"As far as hotel restaurants go, this is definitely on the lower end. I got the steak, and it just wasn't good. There's a strange aftertaste with the food. Frankly, the food in the M lounge was superior. I know it comes out of the same kitchen, but regardless it was better. I got the creme brulee tart, and it was awful. Gas station pastries are better."
"The menu seemed to be changing seasonally, according to the information on the menu. So this comment is only based on my experience in Dec, 2023. We came to this restaurant because of the tempting photos on Google Map. The service is good; atmosphere is nice and cozy. But the food is disappointing. We ordered pizza, burger and creme brulee tart. I understand that all businesses cheap out in some ways at some stages and unfortunately, our meals included the food items they cheaped out aggressively. If a restaurant switched to cheaper chicken, the customer might not be able to taste huge differences. Our meal was not this case. I think the pizza base (the dough) was probably store bough and it was so dense. If not store bought then it really took some effort to make it so bad. It almost tasted like the pizza dough was not able to rise. And the toppings were just not enough to cover the whole pizza. I believe many local pizzerias could make pizza much more mouth watery and satisfying with lower price, and with properly made base. The burger was fine. The creme brulee tart was supposed to be creme brulee in a tart (I guess?) . But it was just so dense, not soft at all. Was this cream stay compact in a container for too long? If this was not located in Marriott Hotel it wouldn't be that frustrating. Maybe they think the travellers in this hotel are just too tired to care about the food wuality. Also the plates we got somehow had a layer of grease (?) on top. I am sure they were clean but the restaurant just seemed to cheap out in dish washing. Actually our dessert plates were so not shiny that one of the staff mistaken them as used plates and tried to take them off the table while they were just sent to us less than 10 min ago. (We weren't paying attention until the staff made this mistake.) With everything going on in Bay Area, I just feel so sad."
"Honestly, this restaurant inside of the Marrott City Center Oakland, California is expensive. Unfortunately, I had very little time and due to rainy weather and the holiday there were few selections.... When you hungry, you eat, lol. The fish taco, my order was made without the hard taco shell. I wanted Indian naan flatbread and it was delicious. The fries were too salty, drinks reasonable. Overall my experience was favorable, especially not having much to choose from."
"I usually endure the on-site food selection at hotels on business trips but, not this time!!! The vegan curry was so good I had it two nights running! The truffle fries were great as well. The beers on tap are mostly local and good!"
