Reviews of Marcella's Lasagneria
"The lasagna here is indeed special. It might be a bit pricey to my standard but you got a solid, in fact, special lasagna. It is definitely bold yet have the light feeling that you can enjoy the whole way through. The most unique feature of the lasagna here is that it is crispy at the bottom. I asked the shop owner and he did not reveal the secret. I tried tiramisu and it is good as well. When I looked at it, it though it was dry. However, when I tasted it, it was moist enough for you to enjoy, but the fullness of cheese filled your mouth. It is a small cup of tiramisu but it is rich enough that you should share with someone else. In any event, this place is great and the shop owner is very friendly. If you are craving for lasagna, you can come here. Oh the pasta looks amazing too. I should try it next time."
"Wow! After a long long time I've had a banger of a meal in SF! Tried the Abruzzo & mushroom lasagna, both were outstanding and a caprese salad. Fabulous lasagna! There's a small wait and if you're sitting outdoors the food cools too quickly but the place is a revelation."
"Stopped in during a work trip and couldn’t have felt more welcome in this restaurant. As soon as I entered I was greeted and seated at a clean table. Water was provided along with some recommendations. Blankets were also offered as it was a chilly day, nice touch. Truly made me feel like a guest in your home. I decided on the lasagna (it’s a lasagneria, how could I not?!) Abruzzo was good with a slight kick from the sausage. It was served in a skillet and came with a small soup or salad. I opted for soup which was a tomato/broth based soup with parsley. Also included were bread and house balsamic dressing. The lasagna was amazing. The pasta is thin so even eating the entire plate I didnt leave feeling heavy or stuffed. Definitely satisfied, but not yet ready to go into a food coma. The marinara was absolutely fantastic and the cheese delicious. I love that they don’t use ricotta here. I do wish they served meatballs (I’m happy to try the southern Italian style!) and will check back when I visit again in a month. Can’t wait to work my way through your menu!"
"I visited this restaurant yesterday for lunch after a morning climbing at Dogpatch Boulders. We got to the restaurant around 1:15pm, and waited around 10-15 minutes to be seated. The restaurant itself has very limited seats, about enough for 10-12 people. They technically close at 1:45PM, but we were able to sit to 2PM, so I assume they just stop taking new orders/seating at 1:45PM. My friend ordered their abruzzo lasagna (spicy sausage), and I had the mushroom. They came with a small bread basket, and a side of green salad which was well dressed and flavorful. The lasagna portions came out in individual pans, and were a decent size. The lasagna sheets were fairly thin, and the cheese and sauce used were both flavorful and not very heavy, so it didn't feel like you were weighed down after finishing the portion. All in all, a lovely spot for some good Italian food."
"I dream about this lasagna. Hands down the best lasagna I’ve had in my life. I always order the lasagna “Abruzzo”. Its the right balance of cheese, sauce and everything you could ask for. It’s my favorite. I love that they serve it to you in a pan, it’s fun and was unexpected. It’s a great atmosphere, we love sitting outside. The only complaint is I wish they were open for dinner. If you have the opportunity to go by for lunch, it’s a definite must try!"
