"Please try this restaurant. I was visiting SF with my husband while he took the State BAR, and after a long, taxing day of testing, we found Gentilly and it breathed life back into him. We ordered the Cajun pasta and the dish with the pulled pork, ribs, and mac. Outstanding food. Ribs slipped off the bone. They have a nice selection of non-alcoholic craft sodas, plus lots of awesome cocktails...which I ordered the second night because we HAD to go back! The first night we ate in the back room and another table was doing a murder mystery which was really cool. We ate in the lounge on the second night and chatted with our server, Jessica - - super cool human being, so kind and engaging! Someone came in and the bartender new him by name, asked if he wanted his favorite thing, and put his program on the TV. It was so wholesome and made it feel homey. I genuinely want to visit this area of SF just to go back to Gentilly! This restaurant is obviously a passion project and I'm so happy places like this exist. My only complaint is that it's so far away from where I live! Then again if I lived close to Gentilly I'd probably gain a lot of weight, especially since they serve a brownie with ice cream and salted caramel. You'd be doing yourself a great disservice if you didn't try it!"

Would I come back: Probably not The extended review… Food: Beignets - 2/3 - These were a little bit flat and not quite as airy or puffy that I'm used to. Shrimp and Grits - 3/3 - Food was pretty standard fare. I could have ussed a few more shrimps to tie me over. Service: 3/5 - Staff was friendly but a tad slow. Ambiance: 3/5 - The main dining room is located in the backside of a bar."

"Sometimes you get invited to dinner and it turns out good. That's how I ended up at Gentilly tonight. The restaurant name sounded familiar because I used to drink at the Broken Record up on Geneva St. and the bartender highly recommended it. My friends who had cocktails said their drinks were good. We ordered the cajun wings $14 to start and all their entrees except for the beans and rice. Fish and chips $17, crawfish pot pie $20, cajun pasta $20, gumbo $22, bbq platter $24 and fried chicken $32. We all thought the food and service was excellent. Well done staff at Gentilly."

"We went here for my mom's bday and we loved our experience. For starters, we ordered the Bam Bam Shrimp and Blackberry BBQ chicken wings and both were so good. The shrimp was crispy and the spicy remoulade drizzled on top of it was just the right amount and wasn't too spicy. The Blackberry BBQ was moist and not too sweet. For my entree, I ordered the fried chicken with grilled mac and cheese. The chicken had a nice crisp and was also moist on the inside like the wings. I have never had grilled mac and cheese before and I liked the one that they had here. I was expecting it to be dry, but the inside was creamy while the crust had enough crisp that it was still not burnt. My sister ordered their gumbo and it was homey and had a lot of meats in it. The portion sizes were HUGE! The servers were all friendly and very accommodating. For dessert, we had their bread pudding that I wished was a tiny bit sweeter and had more sauce. We also tried their apple pie which was sooo yummy. Overall, loved our experience here. Will go back for some more grilled mac and cheese."

"Ambiance of the restaurant was great and the service was good. There are outdoor, indoor, and backyard dining options. Fish n chips portion size was great for the price. I thought the batter was a tad salty but others may enjoy it. The Cajun seasoning on the fries were great. The gumbo had great flavors. If there was only one item I could order, I’d probably go for the gumbo. The beignets weren’t anything revolutionary, but they were a good way to end the meal. Overall I had a good experience and I would definitely come back to try out their wings and other menu items."
