"Came here for dinner on a Thursday evening for 4 people. Had oyster shooter and chicken wings for appetizers on the happy hours, before 6pm. I think it was a few dollars off. The oysters were really fresh, my son loved the chicken wings. For dinner, ordered Steamers, 2 fish and chips, and fish taco, added avocado. Also ordered kusshi oyster and Brussels sprouts. Steamer's portion is small, about 12-15 clams and toasted butter breads. Fish and chips are pretty good portion, served with French fires, fish are fresh. Fish taco, 2 tacos, portion is just right. Son loved his fish taco. Brussels sprouts are good and tasty, actually we preferred if the Brussels are cut in half. Kusshi oysters are really good, nice and fresh Also had iced tea. It was typical iced tea. Overall food was fresh and good. The restaurant decor was very unique, felt like we were on a boat. John was our server, you can tell he is the owner. He constantly checked with us to see if we need anything and asked what we think of the food. Service was great, red-carpet service. The restaurant was not that busy but had about 6 to 8 tables."
"I usually don’t order soup as I find them too salty but the clam chowder was surprisingly delicious with perfect amount of cream and salt. Garlic fries were not greasy and loaded with garlic flavor and crispy. My friend enjoyed the cioppino but the broth could have been a little spicier. Fish and chips plate was plentiful. Beer battered rockfish was not greasy and very tasty. Enjoyed the homemade pickled jalapeño tartar sauce. Ordered the fries extra crispy but they were soggy from sitting underneath the fish. We were served by John, one of the owners. He was very friendly and met all our needs. This is a new neighborhood gem!"
"Bearing West is a hidden gem for seafood enthusiasts. Nestled in the Outer Sunset on Taraval street, its intimate setting and neighborhood feel make you forget all the construction activity for the MUNI line right outside. So they literally are a hidden gem right now! The oysters, freshly shucked and expertly presented, are a testament to the chef's commitment to quality. Whether you prefer the delicate and sweet, or the robust and briny, we ordered the dozen mix and none of them disappointed us. John and Jeff were very attentive and well-versed in their craft. Just a great addition to the neighborhood! Bearing West is a must-visit destination for seafood lovers!"
"A breath of fresh air breaking the traditional mold of food establishments along Taraval street, Bearing West gives a cozy and welcoming local family restaurant vibe. It has a friendly, attentive and timely service, original choice of cocktails and good food. The atmosphere. The bar and both seating rooms have TVs. There is a bar, artwork that adds to the atmosphere, and a tabletop game in the back room. The owners (John and Jeff) told me they were planning to open up the patio in the back too. The drinks. I find them to have an affordable yet original cocktail options like the Rosemary Highball (see pics) There are also an ample variety of wine by the glass and beer. The food. From seafood to garlic fries, the menu was handcrafted by the owners. At my last visit I enjoyed the clams, garlic fries, roasted spicy nuts variety, Baja fish tacos and the special of the day - watermelon, cucumber, feta salad with basil and chicken wings. It was delish. A pleasant surprise, this place turned into my impromptu date and family spot at the same time."
"Great to have this seafood spot on the west side of town! Food and Drinks: All tasty. We especially loved their take on the clam chowder (our new favorite chowder?). The oysters were super fresh, and the cocktails, fish tacos and deviled eggs were nice too! Service: A+! Our server was friendly, responsive, and attentive. The rest of the staff was also warm and welcoming when we came in. Ambiance: Casual updated chowder house/ocean vibe. We walked in around 5:30pm on a Thursday and by the time we left, the front room was full and bustling. We’ll be back and have already recommended it to some friends who live a few blocks away :)"
