Reviews of La Provence Restaurant
"Our first time here. The restaurant itself is beautiful, but as soon as we walked in; Diana (hostess) wasn’t very welcoming at all. Her demeanor seemed very pissy… Our booth was small and being next to a wall felt very cramped. On a good note we got water & bread right away which was very nice and our server Eric was friendly which helped a lot solving the unfriendliness of Diana. Food took a bit to get, but it’s fine just means it’s fresh. The taste on the potatoes were delicious, but not so much on either of our meats; they were just ok. Manager Paul was also very friendly. It was also nice they had a kids menu. Names on pictures: Petite château Beef, Wellingtonn Kids hamburger Kids pizza"
"A one star review is quite generous given my objectively negative experience on Valentine's day. We've arrived 15 minutes prior to our 7.30 reservation, however only got seated 20 minutes past our reservation time. Once seated our orders were taken within 5 minutes(we were quick to order as we looked at the menu prior). We order 2 non alcoholic drinks, gnnochi and salad as starters, and lobster and stake as our main, along with dessert all one go. Shortly after taking our orders the waitress returned to notify us they are out lobster, and so we were forced to change our order. Only the starters and bread made it out of the kitchen, in the next hour that passed. We've not had anyone check in on us, or show concern with the exception of one occurence where they explained the drink is late because the bartender is backed up. However I had clear view of the bar as we were sitting next to it and while it was full it had been empty for the past ten minute. Other patrons who have been seated after us have now recieved their entrees. Keeping in mind that this was a 5 item menu. One hour into our dinner and we decided to pull the plug and walk out. We notified our waiter who informed us that we would need to pay the full price of 95, we did not appear kindly receptive to that statement and she said she would notify the manager. She was a bit late in getting back to us and we caught the attention of one of the two manager ourselves. The manager was apologetic and created a bill for only the appetizers (however still kept the mandatory 20% gratuity within the bill, which is nothing short of I'll gotten gains for the restaurant given the service provided). There were two manager one of which was proactive and one of which could not be bothered to look at our table when he was notified of our predicament. In a hospitality driven industry there appears to be a general sense of apathy from the staff in which a single manager with good attitude could never compensate for. Overall our night was soured and departed with bitter feelings."
"Service was good but not great, no wine poors, waters were near empty. Butter and bread is served with a plastic cup for the butter. I thought that was odd. Bread was refilled quickly though. Fondue appetizer wasn't our favorite. OK, but not what we were expecting. Desserts were the highlight. Tart was supposed to be apple, but berry was very good. Carmel Gelato was very good. Entrees, I think we just ordered the wrong things. Beef wellington was a little too much pastry, but that's probably on us. Cuq au van was great chicken, but probably would pick something else. I never order chicken so not sure why I did. Lamb was a little overcooked, nothing special. The petite steak was the best by far. Overall this is great atmosphere and might have just been understaffed the night we were in. Would recommend despite some of the misses."
"We were very disappointed with the Christmas Eve dinner at La Provence Restaurant. If I could give them zero stars, I most certainly would. The restaurant was less than half full when we arrived AND when we left. This made us wonder why there was a $70 hold per person on our credit card when we made the reservation. (we were informed of this when making the reservation) Five small slices of bread for 4 people came out on a coffee cup saucer and a small amount of butter came in a plastic cup. (We never got any more bread even after requesting it) Our drinks came slow and we were never asked if we wanted a refill or additional drinks. The fixed menu was an unknown surprise, but understandable. Our server said he was not aware of the dinner being a fixed menu either and he had no input on the items listed, nor did he know how to pronounce the items. The servers who brought the food out were not aware of who had what and handed the wrong plates to the wrong people all three times. (Starters - Entrees - Desserts) The food was barely decent. The desserts were very bland looking and tasted just OK. The very poor service did not warrant the automatically added 20% gratuity for four people. Not a place we would revisit on any day, nor would we recommend La Provence to any of our friends or neighbors here in Roseville."
"La Provence is our holiday choice for dining on many occasions. French and American choices. Delicious food and friendly professional service Not open Sunday’s except for holidays when brunch and buffet is available. I recommend menu items rather than buffet options as the food gets cold and not as good as when plated fresh. You can find discount cards at Costco for 20% off which we used today for Father’s Day. Indoor or outdoor seating with a fireplace inside. Reservations needed for holiday visits but otherwise usually able to be seated without reservation. Nice setting for large family get together or for a couple wanting an exceptional dining experience."
