"Mul naengmeyon and dulsot bibimbap were fantastic! Very deep soup base flavor. Noodles were perfectly chewy. Everything is self service and the place is not necessarily the nicest but the food is fantastic. We got there at 10:45am and there were already a few people there right at opening."
"One of our favorite places to go for gamjatang and other dishes. Took my friends there and they also love it. Friendly service though it's mostly self served, but that's the best part! There is also a self service water station. I can't ask for more!"
"Updated 9/28/23 Definitely still recommending this place but had to round down based on my latest visit. Two dishes that didn’t live up to my last visit were the cold noodles and Kalbi ribs. The cold noodles had a different flavor and texture to the broth. Good, just not as good as I recall. Not a deal breaker. The Kalbi ribs were even more disappointing. Fatty and chewy. On the positive side, the two new dishes we tried were awesome. Jjajang mien, which was sold out las time was amazing. Great flavors, actually had meat which some places stopped adding, and was a very large serving. No wonder they sell out! Also tried the soon tofu soup which was equally amazing in flavors, meat ratio and portion size. Definitely must tries. Service and self service banchan was still great. Almost makes up for the self service pick up and clean up :) —————- Probably more 4.5 stars, but will round up until I can try them again and see how consistent they are. The good: Service is very friendly and helpful Self serve banchan bar - love that you don’t have to wait, but it is hard not to fill up too much as they were all very good. Food food food! Cold noodles - some great flavors and huge servings Galbi jim - again, great broth and lots of lean meat Kalbi - add as a combo and save some money. Delicious and much less fatty than many other places nearby Purple rice!!! Plenty of parking! No language barrier - spoke perfect Korean and English. Some Spanish too from what I heard. Needs improvement: They ran out of the dish I went there for, which is the Jajangmyun, so that’s a bummer. Will try again. Parts of the self serve concept. Utensil box was empty at our table and they do expect that you take your dirty dishes back to the front. The place isn’t expensive, but not cheap either. I always get confused with how much to tip in places like this. Still tipped 18%, but not going over that for self serve like i would at full service places. Not a deal breaker, but food for thought."
"My boyfriend and I came here in August 2021. It was our first time coming here and we have been talking about coming back here soon. Everything was so delicious. I love the variety options of all-you-can eat banchan (side dishes, not pictured). I personally love the fish cakes(from banchan) and I had to exercise some self-control to not get too much of banchan since I wanted to try the dishes. The soup and cold noodles were my favorite. They were both refreshing and balanced out the spices and meats from rice cakes and budae jjigae."
"I was craving some late night Korean food and I was glad that Somunnan was open until 10:00pm. I was expecting table service but the restaurant is self-service. Walk up to the cashier to order your food and they'll call your ticket number when the food is ready. Meanwhile, they have a self-service appetizer bar which I thought was a nice touch. They only have a few selection like kimchi, fish pancake, bean sprouts, chopped lettuce, and pickles. The kimchi was perfect for me, not too spicy nor too salty. The fish pancake was a little under seasoned and could have used some salt. I ordered Dolsot Bibimpab and it was okay. I like how the clay pot was extremely hot which made the rice crispy on the bottom. It was under seasoned and I had to put a lot of gochujang for taste. I wish there was more meat in it though. I'll definitely go back there again to try their other items. I give Somunnan 3.5 stars. Suggestion: Get rid of the styrofoam bowls/saucers and plastic utensils. It makes the feel of the restaurant more like a cafeteria than a restaurant."
