Reviews of UOVO | Santa Monica
"You need to get a high top seat at the bar! One of the coolest parts of this restaurant is that you can watch the cooks prepare your meal, and this seat offers you the best view. I walked in around 6pm on a Sunday and waited about 10 minutes for a seat. This is my second time visiting this restaurant after discovering it two years ago on a trip to LA. I knew I had to come back and it was just as good as I remembered. Except now they do parmesan wheel tossed pasta too!"
"Our dinner at Uovo set a new standard for authentic Italian pasta for us. We recently visited Italy and have had pasta on our brains (and in our hearts, and in our stomachs) for months now. Visiting Uovo, despite the fact that we were in Southern California, brought all of our sensibilities back to Italy. Every dish we got was delicious. It's their main thing, but in case you're not aware, the pasta is made in Bologna, Italy and shipped to them every day...so it just doesn't get much more authentic than that. My wife and I shared the tasting menu so we could try all of the vegetarian options, including Caco e Pepe, Pomodoro, and Tagliatelle in truffle sauce. All three were perfect and were my budget and waistline to allow, I would eat any of these every day. The tasting menu came with a small arugula salad, and Tiramisu which we also shared and which were great. The place is intimate...we ended up being seated at the bar. They don't take reservations, which is, on one hand refreshing as you know you're always going to have a fair shot of getting a table as anyone else...but, of course, that means wait times could be long. (But put your name in and they'll text you so you can wander around Santa Monica while waiting.) They do have tables but it's really the luck of the draw based on when you put your name in and what comes up first. Anyone who loves authentic Italian pasta dishes (or who yes yet to realize you love them) will find the very best of those here."
"In an area filled with Italian restaurants, Uovo found a way to stand out not only with their incredible dishes, but also the overall experience of being able to watch the talented chefs work their magic. The CDC was extremely talented and had a very impressive ability to keep track of not just everything in the kitchen, but also when I completed my first dish so that he’d begin preparing the second. What a fantastic experience, I can’t wait to come back again!"
"Heard good things about Uovo and finally got to try the Downtown Santa Monica location on a weekend night. (Pro-tip: don’t park at the meters nearby, the city garages have free 90 min parking). There are some tables outside but most seating is inside bar-style right in front of the chefs. Took about 15 minutes to seat our party of 3. The inside felt too dimly lit and a bit loud, but the food was great. Uovo’s selling point is handmade pasta shipped overnight from Italy, and I’m definitely no connoisseur but the pasta does taste fresh. The Ragu was perfectly flavored and filling without dairy. The Carbonara and Crema di Parmigiano also came highly recommended. The roasted broccolini and mushroom sides were perfectly cooked and savory. Decently pricey but a quality dining experience."
"Ordered to go! Food was great, although we had to go back because we were missing two items in the order. My son ordered a Coke and she gave it to him for free for the hassle which was really kind. Portions are small, but the pasta is very authentic Italian. Next time I’d like to dine in."
