Reviews of Zelda's Original Gourmet Pizza
"This spot is something special. The pizza let me tell you that crust is like nothing I've ever had and the ingredients on the pie are delicious. There were 5 groups waiting before this spot opened and the phone was no stop ringing. Place this old and this busy has to mean something. Give it a try"
"We've been to Zelda's several times, and we love this place. When you walk in, it's like going back in time. The bar is the first thing you'll see. It's dark due to low lighting. To the left is the small dining room where you can sit in a wooden booth along the wall or at a 4-top table. There is an ivy-covered lattice type wall adorned with colored Christmas lights that separate the bar from the dining room. The servers are super nice and attentive as they keep your drinks full. The food, especially the pizza, takes a while, so don't expect a quick meal. We started with the spinach salad so we could get our veggies. It was filled with fresh spinach, real bacon pieces, cheese, and a hardboiled egg. The pizza finally came, and it was worth the wait! We had the "Everything with Anchovies." It's my favorite pizza of all time. This deep dish pizza has an incredible crust that has a crunchy yet flaky, buttery texture. The chunky pieces of tomato ooze their juices when cooked and create a sauce atop the crust. Also, it's these chunky tomato pieces that allow the anchovies to melt into the pizza and give it a wonderful umami that makes all the ingredients dance on your palette. If you want to try the best pizza in Sacramento (IMO), visit Zelda's. You won't be disappointed. They also do take out and order ahead for dine in."
"This place was recommended to me by the owner of a bar in Old Sac. I took ten of my family members here with pretty high expectations, as the bar owner said the food was "incredible". The first thing I noticed when we entered was how dark it was. It was nearly impossible to read the menus. The second thing I noticed was how limited their menu was, and the prices for large pizzas ($33-$40). I figured that at that price, the guy who recommended it was probably right. He wasn't. We ordered six large pizzas, 3 pitchers of beer, and we tried ordering sodas for the kids but their soda gun was broken and they only had sprite in a can. We also ordered a salad. The pizza was mediocre at BEST. They also kept running out of clean cups. I get that sometimes the dishwasher can get backed up, I've worked in many restaurants myself. But we were the only ones there! When we left, I asked everyone what they thought of the place and got a resounding thumbs down. The only reason I gave them three stars is because I thought our server was doing the best he could do with what he had, which earns a star in my mind. Also, we were left with nearly a $400 bill. As far as food, and the price for it goes, I cannot in good conscience recommend this restaurant to anyone, even a total stranger."
"Pizza is deep dish style. The crust was dry and kind of crumbly. Otherwise tasted good. I prefer more sauce on my spaghetti. The spinach and artichoke dip was delicious. Comes in a bread bowl made of the same pizza dough described above. Staff were very friendly. The atmosphere reminded me of an old small town diner. A nostalgic feeling for me."
"Heard about this place back in 2004. Finally went to try it. Pizza was different but good. I really liked the garlic bread. Cute spot."
