Reviews of Ruth's Buka
"The food is awesome! I've never had Nigerian Ghana food before and it was awesome. The flavors oh my gosh where do I start. They're jollof rice on point colorful spicy I could eat that by itself. We got the jollof rice with vegetables and plantains which comes with your choice of protein for us it was chicken and beef. The vegetables is like fresh collard semi-cooked greens with spice. The plantains soft and sweet perfect to go with the spice of the dish. The beef was a little dry and tough although Good. The chicken fell off the bone and the flavors of the sauce permeated throughout the chicken in each bite. I did have a side dish of the goat for me it was a little too gamey and I've had gamey meats. The soups come with a protein of your choice fish chicken beef goat. We had chicken with our Egusi soup. It was warm and spicy and the fufu (sticky cassava that has been boiled and pounded) this would be like sticky mashed potato complemented the Egusi soup. On another trip we had the red snapper and that was well deeply fried. There are bones but if you like fish you will like it. Also had a bottle of the tropical rhythms fruit punch which was sweet and fruity. Also try the puff puff - similar to donut holes without the sugar. If you are messy eater ask for extra napkins. Did I mention the food is spicy... Ask for extra napkins LOL Sometimes expect a line and if there is a line be patient the food is worth it. And if you have any questions ask the people behind the counter they're Good at explaining the ingredients and making suggestions especially If It's your first time. Their bathroom clean and well decorated."
"Ok so. I’ve been here probably about 3 times… and I can say that the food is pretty good. For my first time trying it someone else brought me here and I wasn’t sure if I was gonna like it. But the food was actually great! Meat kinda tough but it was good for my first time. I recently ordered over DoorDash tho. And I wasn’t happy with the order today. My bowl looked like it was barely anything in in. The meat was super tough. The back of my teeth were starting to hurt from how tough the meat was. I had at least 1 soft piece and that was about it. But the portion was very small and it was cold. Not sure what had happened but I was surprised only because I didn’t have that small of a portion before. I understand people might go there a lot but it was seriously like feeding a toddler. And for 25 bucks you’d except something different just saying."
"HAD BUGS IN FOOD!!! We are SO lucky to have put pieces on paper towel or else we really could’ve have gotten sick. This item was jerky of theirs and now I’m just wondering how well kept their actual food is kept. So sick to my stomach right now."
"YES YES YES!!! I am moving to the Bay Area and I hoped I could find a African Restaurant that was decent… WELLLLL, I hit the jackpot!!!! The grandmother that came from the back to acknowledge she made the Egusi soup brought tears to my eyes… When I thanked her for the care she took in getting the flavors to pop with the right amount of SPICE- perfection… The soup has the traditional Palm oil so if you don’t like that, this may not be the place… I like the fact that I was able to mix my soup with the Okra Soup (cause that’s how I like it!) and the Gari was a perfect addition as my fufu… I will be coming back… Ps.. I ate my food in the car cause the dining was full, messed up my white blouse sand had to go back in and thank her before I left… Looking for African Soup that tastes like home, You in the RIGHT place!!! Thank you Ms, Ruth!"
