Reviews of John's Grill
"John’s Grill was a great pick for our anniversary dinner. The food was delicious. We had a reservation and arrived on time and were immediately seated. I was looking forward to a “white tablecloth” dinner and was a little disappointed that it was white linens covered in white paper. We ordered 2 ribeyes, one with baked potato and the other mashed, the mashed potatoes were out of this world and the steaks were cooked perfectly. Compliments to the chef! Our waiter was good, but the water glasses were tiny, so I had to ask for refills a few different times. Because it was our anniversary, they brought us complimentary White Russian drinks, but we don’t drink. I appreciated the gesture, but it was awkward. The lobby area is tiny, so everyone waiting to be seated held the door open, which let the cold air freeze out the diners inside. Yes, I would return, but I would ask for a table in the far back."
"After deliberating with my friends on where to have dinner in San Francisco, we ended up choosing this restaurant with a long-standing tradition. The steak I ordered was absolutely delicious, and paired with the wine recommended by the friendly staff, it was perfect. As I looked at the walls filled with photos, I could feel the restaurant's fame and history. Given its popularity, I highly recommend making a reservation in advance, or else you might face a long wait."
"Visited a charming, long-standing steak and seafood restaurant with impressive historical décor. The steak was satisfactory, and the seafood showed freshness. However, the service was average, lacking the attentiveness expected from such an establishment. The ambiance, adorned with vintage accents, added a touch of elegance to the dining experience. While the culinary offerings were commendable, a bit more attention to service could elevate the overall dining experience. A fine choice for those seeking a blend of classic ambiance and decent steak and seafood options. I especially recommend a boiled halibut."
"Got hungrey in downtown SF, and boy, did I find a gem! A classic NY style steakhouse. I ordered a med-rare ribeye, and wow, it was done to perfection. The loaded baked potato was a perfect compliment. But the kicker was the long island iced tea. It was made in the original NY style. Totally recommend this fine hidden gem! The food was superb, and the service was spectacular."
"The ambiance, food, and service were so good we went back on the second day. Ana, our server was super professional yet friendly and attentive. Ask for her! The place oozes charm and history. The cherry on top is that the food was amazing! Not to mention that the location is super convenient to everything. Do yourself a favor, don't miss this San Francisco gem!"
