"There aren't too many Puerto Rican places in the Bay, so that's a plus...but the food is not great. My jibarito didn't have a lot of meat, the lechón was not seasoned, and the plátanos did not taste like they were fried properly...they also didn't have arroz con gandules, which is a major sin in my book. The service is good, and the space is really nice: so my advice is to go for the decor, but skip the food and just do drinks/apps."
"I was really craving Puerto Rican food. My husband and I had finished our hike and was wondering what was next. He say he was game so off we went to Sol. We first stopped at the Mill Valley location but that is not dine in. I live to far away to make this a to go meal so we opted for the San Rafael location. The ambiance is nice. It can be communal seating. Meaning you sit near strangers But I recommend going. The food was good. It is right now in the top three Puerto Rican spots in the Bay Area. Yes I recommend. I had a jibaro. I was very good. Very large. The limeade is huge and worth it."
"I have mixed feelings about this place. The food is good and you definitely won't leave hungry. The atmosphere is fun and Sol Food feels like an authentic experience. However it is loud, people act like vultures trying to grab a table and parking can be a challenge. The latter is not there fault but it is still something that you'll have to deal with. My family loves it and the last time I was there I got the rib plate. It wasn't bad and there were leftovers for the next day. My youngest daughter loves the chicken soup (so do I). If you go on peak times there is a line going well past the establishment, there is a door person ensuring that people aren't hoarding a table (you have to order before grabbing a table to ensure that people act fairly). In the end, yes it is a good spot but it evokes behaviour unbecoming of a bay area priced restaurant. If you go I would HIGHLY RECOMMEND that you go off-peak hours."
"Customer service was wonderful which goes a long way in my book. This lively atmosphere uses their space creatively to accommodate more people by sharing tables. Great place to have lunch. I hade the camarones a la diabla and pineapple bread pudding, which both were very tasty. The shrimp is spicy but not unbearable especially with the side of avocado that comes with it to tone it down if you need to. I will definitely come again because the host made us feel welcomed as a first time customer and the food was delicious!"
"Absolutely delicious! We were greeted by (who we assumed was the owner) and he was extremely friendly and welcoming, and explained how their menu worked. The eating environment was so upbeat and lively, both of our meals were very promising, and although not the main course, their fries tasted fresh. Definitely worth a try if you enjoy or have interest in trying Puerto Rican food."
