Reviews of El Mansour Restaurant
"Yes. Eat here. Not cheap but worth the experience. Be sure to go when they have the belly dancers. Took our 12 and 15 year old. They will never forget it. All the food was good. We had rabbit, lamb, chicken couscous, and chicken kabab. Kids really liked the soup appetizer especially dipping bread in it. The chicken bastilla was great. If you read a review that says it was strange that makes sense it’s a Moroccan restaurant. So you have to have an open mind to try new things. It’s going to be strange to taste powdered sugar, chicken, and cinnamon at the same time but what if you like it? The staff were super friendly. They realize a fixed course menu of $50+ of cultural cuisine with a 12 year old might scare parents off so they helped a lot with selection and even cost. If you’ve never had a Moroccan restaurant experience, this is your place."
"*Vegetarian and nut warning* My friend and I both agreed that neither of us would return here. The food was not worth the price. One major issue that occurred was it is a fixed 5 course menu. I asked if there was an alternative dessert that didn't have nuts and the waiter said he could bring me fruit instead. I was fine with that, but also fruit really isn't dessert. I then didn't notice until I started eating, but one of the appetizers also had nuts in it. My nut allergy is very mild, but this could be an emergency for someone else. I was later also brought the dessert with nuts in it and had to ask again for the fruit instead. The lentil soup was delicious, the salad was also good - aside from the eggplant. The chicken bastilla was strange...not something I'd order again, but my friend had a veggie one and he really enjoyed it. The entrees were delicious. I had the chicken with onions and olives (gotta be very careful for small bones). This place had a veggie meal option, but I don't really know if they are actually vegetarian friendly because when my friend ordered it, the waiter asked if he was okay with them using chicken broth.... The seats were comfortable and they had some belly dancing entertainment which was fun."
"Al Mansour is the perfect place for a fun cultural night out. This place can be found deep within San Francisco with a relatively modest but culturally evocative entrance. First of all, the food is very good and original to this restaurant or to the Moroccan cuisine that is its specialty. The five course menu won't disappoint with plenty of options for everybody. There is also a separate prix-fixe menu if you don't want the full menu. The lentil soup tastes really really good, I also enjoy dipping the bread in it, it makes for a nice savory combination. There is a pistachio and beef specialty pie as one of the appetizers which is very unique and tasty to boot. I think all the options on the menu are good, but I especially enjoyed the lamb with honey and almonds, or the Moroccan seafood dish, but I think all seem very good. The belly dancing performances definitely added a lot to an evening at this place, it really turned everything into an experience. We were lucky that we went through two full sessions of dancing cuz we stayed long enough. The lady fit in many different styles and trappings as part of her performance. The atmosphere is very well done, once you step through that front entrance, you feel you are in a Moroccan tent in the desert with comfortable pillow seating and small tables. The decor is very sumptuous and expressive. The evening is topped off with a delightful dessert with deep fried banana and baklava, and some nice mint tea. The service was always excellent and they often checked to make sure we had everything we needed."
"Food is consistently delicious. I've been taking my 40 yo son since he was a young boy. Now it's a favorite place for family birthdays. Often requested by our picky eaters. Food is great, service is wonderful and the belly dancing is fun. Our 3 yo grand was enthralled!"
