Reviews of Solaire Restaurant + Bar
"Let me set the scene for you. We made a reservation for four people at 7 on a Friday. I arrived to meet our two friends that were already seated at the table. As I approached the bar there were 4 people in swim trunks, no shirts sopping wet sitting at the bar. I thought that was a bit strange but not that big of a deal. All of us were hungry and really looking forward to trying the new Solaire. We started off by ordering a round of signature cocktails. After waiting for a good 10 minutes the waitress stopped by and said the bar was really backed up. I thought that’s strange because the restaurant is not that busy and there’s three bartenders back there. Drinks finally arrive and we place our order. We start with two appetizers, split salad. Main course we got the arugula salad add steak, pork belly fried rice and two smash burgers (it was burger week) and a bottle of wine. Manager came with the bottle of wine, presentation was fine. Our food came out rather quickly all things considered but to my astonishment it was the main courses. After the plates had been dropped there was some confusion as the arugula salad didn’t have any arugula it was spinach and there was no steak. We did however get the steak dish that was on the menu. When asked about this the waitress said oh, I thought you ordered the salad and steak dish. We explained that wasn’t what we ordered. She asked if we wanted to keep it and we said yes bc we wanted steak on our salad. After we cleared that up I asked about our appetizers. The waitress said “oh they didn’t deliver those”. I politely said no and she asked if we still wanted them. We declined at this point. On to the the dinner. My pork belly rice was atrocious, I’ve had better at the worse Chinese restaurants. Pork belly was dry and the dish lacked any meaningful flavor. The Burgers weren’t smashed, they were just normal burgers. They order med rare, came well done. The only half descent part of all the dishes was the steak, it had good flavor even though it was a little over cooked to my liking. So after a fairly disappointing experience we ask for the check and to our surprise the steak dish is on the check. We ask the server about this and her response is “well you ate it”. Well yes, we did bc we wanted steak on our salad?!?. After some discussion she agreed to ask the manager to take it off. A couple minutes later she comes back and says the manager agreed to remove it from our check. We go to pay the bill and notice that there’s a charge for steak added to a salad. I guess it’s all good, we ordered steak and don’t mind paying for what we ordered but you would think after all the screwups you would just comp that dish, no biggie. If this chef and restaurant are striving for a Michelin star as I’ve read they are so far from it it’s laughable. Like I told my friends I give that experience a BFGoodrich 2 star rating. Horrible. Don’t plan on coming back."
"Ii gave 1 star but I really want to give -5 stars. We drove 2.5 hours, paid $25 for parking to be completely ignored by staff. We waited 30 mins and were only served water. Others who came 15 mins after us and were sitting close to us received their appetizer. 4 couples came after us, they all had drink and/or appetizer. After another 7 mins wait, we let them know why we have to leave. Manager said sorry and we left. They ignored us because of our skin color. I will NEVER recommend the place to anyone."
"Absolutely love this place, food and ambiance is incredible ever since the renovation last summer!! The orange salmon and saffron pasta are my regular favorites, but whatever you get, don’t miss out on the pork belly bao buns or tuna wontons (order split in half to accommodate a gluten free guest)! The chef is very understanding and accommodates any dietary restrictions. Sit at the bar with the bartender Rainbow- he is the BEST! Special Valentine’s Day lobster and pomegranate risotto was to die for!"
"I don’t tend to write reviews, but our experience here was very bad. To be fair, I was at the restaurant with a large party (around 10 people) on Christmas morning. It’s Christmas, so we were already expecting short staffing and longer than usual wait times. We arrived at 10am, and the hostess let us know it would be about a fifteen minute wait. The restaurant was not full, about half the tables were open. The hostess seated us and gave us menus. She told us that our server would be with us shortly. No one came by for a half hour. There was one server on the floor who greeted every other table except ours. She seemed to be deliberately ignoring us. There was a party who came in from the back without seeing the hostess first, and the server just gave them a menu and started serving them. One member of our party had to leave the table to ask the bartender where our server was. The hostess ended up coming over to take our orders. We waited another 45 minutes. Nothing. No acknowledgement from staff either. Multiple other tables were seated and served already by this point. A member from our party went to find the manager to ask about our order. She asked in a polite way, while empathizing with the fact that it’s Christmas and she understands things must be hectic (she worked in the restaurant business for 30 years). The manager brushed her off, did not even look at her, said “yeah, merry Christmas” in a sarcastic tone, and left. At this point we have been here for 2 hours. When the food finally comes out, the hostess is serving and the manager comes out to talk. People in my party were understandably frustrated, and complained, while keeping an assertive tone and acknowledging that it is Christmas, and we understand…However, waiting for 2 hours with NO acknowledgment from the server, being dismissed by the manager, watching every other table get served (even a large party who came after us) was so unreasonable! Even when we outlined all the facts of the situation, the manager did not offer an apology and instead told us that we could go somewhere else. A member of our party literally had to ask for an apology from the manager and from the server who ignored us the whole time. We ended up taking the food to go and that was another half hour wait…overall, 2.5 hours of lousy service. While this was a bad experience, I really want to give a shout out to the hostess. She was the only one who acknowledged us and went out of her way to help us despite being swamped at the front. We ended the day on a cordial note. Multiple people in our group have experience working in the service industry, so we empathized with the difficult staffing situation. That being said, since many of us worked in the service industry, we all agree that the service provided here was shockingly poor, despite staffing issues. The lack of communication, being deliberately ignored, and the combative attitude from management was uncalled for."
