Philz Coffee

"Walked in for the first time a little overwhelmed by the choices. I’ve never been to a coffee place like this. But the young man at the counter was wonderful! He was so kind and patient and seemed to genuinely like what he was doing. That’s so rare anymore! I hope someone recognizes Sergio for a 5star experience! I’m just visiting here, but I will make it a point to stop by every time I’m in town! Ps. The coffee is excellent!"

"Philz is iconic but I’m not sure my understanding of light roast and theirs are the same. Big caveat: I’m a newbie coffee snob and they’re an industry leader and one of the pioneers of third wave coffee. That being said, Ambrosia of the Gods tasted dark to me. Otherwise, staff is friendly, store is cute and located in a nice plaza. I like it, I’ll come back and try another coffee sometime!"

"I guess as it becomes more popular, quality declines. I remember when the baristas would have you taste your coffee before picking it up to make sure it’s to your taste. Not the case any more. I miss being able to order directly from the barista, so your drink would be perfect. The experience here is more like being at Starbucks or Peet’s, rather than an experience of working with a barista to get your perfect cup of coffee. This store needs a better system for accommodating bringing in your own mug. I checked in with the baristas 3 times when I left my mug with them and they still put it in a paper cup. The table set up for working on your laptop is disappointing. There aren’t a lot of options and you have to fight for a spot. Overall Philz is now just like every other chain coffee shop - caring more about churning products rather than a bespoke coffee experience."

"Been coming here since it opened. Sometimes the drinks can be inconsistent depending on the barista. My two favorite baristas are Desiree and Isabela , top notch drinks I recommend Mint Mojito and the Philtered Soul Cold Brew"

"I drove here from Santana Row area last night and arrived at 7:50 p.m., hoping to get an espresso latte because Philz Coffee has posted their business hours that indicates they close at 8:00 p.m. Very disappointed. I'm including a photo that I took upon my arrival to prove it. They have posted their holiday hours for specific days but they seem to forget what they posted on Google Maps. It's free and you can change it anytime. Come on now."
