Reviews of Golden Age Center and Blue Barn Thrift Store
"The Golden Age Center in Weaverville is hands down the most worthwhile of all the county's charitable causes; your donations go a long way towards helping people in need here, in particular the elderly citizens. Many folks don't know this, but their year-round services to the aged extend well beyond meal prep and transportation. The employees and volunteers alike go well out of their way to assist the community's most vulnerable whenever the need arises, and this facility is a great place to invest your cash donations to keep that machine going strong. And, all funding stays local, an added plus. Please give whatever you can as often as you can to help keep this essential service up and running for the benefit of Trinity's retiree community. Much love to Ann and the hard-working GAC staff who give so much of themselves for this outstanding cause. Blessings, everyone!"
"Our local Senior Center is a wonderful place! It has a thrift shop attached. The people who work there and volunteer do it because they love the people. They serve a fantastic lunch 4 days a week 4 a very nominal price. It is nutritious and prepared with love. And it is always absolutely delicious. I love serving there on Mondays. It is such an honor and privilege."
"Cashier was very informative when I inquired about small ways to help others including those displaced from there homes due to the fires this year. She also helped me to get the Facebook page for the blue barn. She took the time as she sorting through items from a donation."
"Absolutely a super group of people! We appreciated them giving us a cot, food & compassion during our loss in the Carr fire. ."
"During the recent Helena/Fork complex fire of 2017 this center was set up as a local community fresh air breathing center. Over 75 local families lost their homes to the fire. After my second visit to the center, incidentally a downpour had just ensued as the center was closing and i was leaving. My friend and I ran to a covered bench aside the exit to recoup our next destination as we were on foot. A woman who insisted i refer to her as a "Bi++h" when i asked her name, was exiting the center and locking the entrance door when she seen me sitting on a nearby covered bench in the parking lot. She told me "i couldn't sleep there". Confused as to why she would assume I'd want to sleep there, i said no ma'am, i have a place to sleep... Thank you? " I was appalled at this hideous woman and her nasty mean and further insulting comments towards me. She even threatened to call police if i didn't leave the property immediately, and told me "to go under the bridge with my homeless friends." I have never seen such a shameful act as this, to insult and curse at people in the community using community facilities and resources during a time of natural disaster foe so many. How embarrassing for this community!! I will never again refer any of my friends or family to this center ever again, for ANY reason. It deserves a negative rating honestly... Where do they do that??!!"
