Reviews of Mica Restaurant & Bar
"We ate in the pub/bar area. I had the fish and chips. There were three large pieces of fish. All tasted great! The bar was promoting Hop Valley Brewing Co. out of Oregon. The beer went well with my dinner."
"Food was great, some unique flavors on the menu. I had a reservation for dinner for a party of 5, had a great time, my steak was cooked perfect and the pork belly appetizer was easily one of the best pork belly dishes I have had. I also had dinner and drinks on the pub side, much different vibe than the other room and a different menu. Chicken sandwich was great and drinks improved since last visit. It’s all uphill for this place definitely worth a try. It’s different than a lot of restaurants that have been at this location, Ukiah needs something like this place."
"We went to Mica with some friends for dinner on a Saturday. We had heard that the service is better going early so we showed up at 5 p.m. We were the first ones in the restaurant. The restaurant started filling up around 6 p.m. We ordered the flatbread for our appetizer. Surprisingly, it only had one tiny piece of flatbread for four people and some yogurt/butternut squash dipping sauce. We had to tear the flatbread into even smaller pieces to each have one tiny bite. When we dipped it into the sauce, all we tasted was yogurt. The staff didn't tell us that we had to mix the sauce. There was enough of the dipping sauce for probably at least 12 pieces of the flatbread, but for some reason, they only served one. When we commented that the dipping sauce was bland we were told you have to mix it. They were kind enough to give us another tiny piece of flatbread. After we had torn it into more one-bite pieces, we mixed the sauce and tried it again and it was much better. I would strongly urge them to add several more pieces of flatbread. It is expensive and makes them look cheap to only include one. For dinner, I ordered the ribeye steak. It was 16 oz. and large, but a very thin cut. I would have preferred a smaller steak that was thicker. It seemed like a cheap cut of meat because it was so thin. It had some sort of herb on it like time that overpowered the steak flavor a little. It came with some potatoes that were kind of interesting. I don't know why it didn't have a green vegetable of some sort. It was supposed to have roasted root vegetables, but none were offered. Another member of our party got the New York steak. He seemed to be happier with his choice but I noticed that his steak was also paper thin; not what you expect from a restaurant with upscale prices. My wife got the Romanesco Mushrooms. She didn't like it very much. It was too spicey for any of us and mostly made up of cauliflower with only a few mushrooms. The last member of our party got the pork chops. She said they were very good; tender and flavorful. Of all of our dinners, this was probably the best. The ambiance was OK, but not great. The music was grating and too loud The lighting was so dark that it was hard to read the menus. We had to get out our phone flashlights to see them. The service was very good. Overall, I wanted to like this place. We could use a good steakhouse in Ukiah, but it just isn't worth it for the price. It needs to offer better food and a more soothing atmosphere at these prices."
"Recently went there for my works Christmas party with about 80 people and we had a great time. The bartenders Justin and Nick were the highlight of the night they kept up with all of the drink orders and were so cool and friendly! I told Nick the flavors and type of liquor I like and he made me an amazing fruity margarita it tasted so good!! They ran out of steak at one point which was understandable since there were so many of us but once it came out it was delicious. Definitely coming back again to check out the pub menu!"
"I was so excited to hear about Mica opening in Ukiah! Formerly the building was occupied by Hanger 39 and Crush prior to that. It’s a beautiful building with so much potential and I would be lying if I said I wasn’t disappointed in my visit. The pros 1.) it’s a beautiful venue! The lighting, the music, the grand piano, the castle like atmosphere make the experience just a little magical. 2.) The service was wonderful. Our waitress (Jasmin G) was so kind, attentive, and professional. 3.) The bar area is casual and fun, the perfect place for a Friday night out. 4.) The fries were good The cons 1.) I do not know what in the world is going on with the Bao Buns but I questioned whether or not they were actually edible. The bun was hard yet had a styrofoam like texture. My friend joked that maybe they messed up and gave me the display Bao Buns. I took two bites in order to fairly review it. I can confirm they do go down. I can also confirm they are not buns, more like discs. At $15 for two of these Bao Discs, I do not think it is worth the expense. 2.) The chicken sandwich. Y’all. What is going on you just opened! Overcooked and burnt in some spots. (See my photos) 3.) The Brussels sprouts were very oily. The sauce on them was tasty though so add that to pros. 4.) Smash burger had a… unique texture. Similar to that of a meatball. Like the meat was mixed with filler (breadcrumbs) or something of the sort. Overall I’m disappointed and the place feels like it wasn’t quite ready to open. Perhaps a few more weeks to iron out the kinks? I pride myself on giving fair reviews so I will be visiting again this weekend in the main dining room to test their mains for dinner."
