In 1999, the Oswegoland Park District took steps to improve the habitat for fish in the area by removing a damaged dam and installing fish-friendly features such as riffles and fish lunkers. In 2010, the U.S. Army Corp of Engineers and the Illinois Department of Natural Resources collaborated to further enhance the fish passages along Waubonsie Creek and address erosion issues along the creek's shores. Visitors to Stonegate Park can enjoy the natural beauty of the area while also appreciating the efforts to protect and preserve the local ecosystem.

"Tucked away past a large stone gate is a trail along the river. I've almost never seen anyone else there although fron the trail you can see the back yards of the nearest neighborhood. It's still very peaceful and after just a few min walking there's an old bench near the bank of the water where you can watch the water rush over some big rocks. It sounds amazing as it rushes"
