Reviews of White Oak Trail
"Walked the upper loop. Very well marked but rocky trail. It is not the Rocky Mountains, but very beautiful. There are a several types of semi mature trees The creeks are lovely and photogenic. There are trip hazards so wear trail boots and take a walking stick. There is water that needs purification but no potable water. There is an outhouse at the parking lot and picnic tables and grills at the parking lot. There is one handicap parking spot but the trail is too rough for wheelchairs. This is tick country, so come prepared. We only saw 2 people and their 2 unleased dogs. They were unmasked, not unusual for Southern Missouri. We had a wonderful winter hike in Hawn State Park. Be sure and pack a lunch, water, a walking stick, and tick repellent. You will have a great hike."
"Great hike beautiful place."
"Nice loop, a little rocky in spots. Despite the snow today the trail was in good shape. Not slick, not too muddy."
"Lovely hike on the White Oak trail. Rocky in some parts, but definitely doable. Clean out toilet with hand sanitizer at the trailhead!"
"Very nice trail that is not quite four miles. Only reason it doesn't get a five star rating is because the Whispering Pine trail gives you a lot more variety. No meaningful water and only one large-ish pine grove. Still very nice and would be a top trail at many other parks. We were here on a lower than normal temperature day in late August. There was a lot of rain earlier in the week. Not sure what caused it, but the ticks were awful. I did not dress appropriately and had my ankles destroyed and many other bites up my legs. Was overgrown in spots, but I bet it's a great trail in early spring or after the first major frost."
