"The Emiquon NWR has been a long time place of serenity for many people, native and migrant to Central Illinois, the State of Illinois,or even to the United States. I recently visited while on a trip out of town for work. It's the end of February, so there were plenty of varieties of wild fowl; Canada Geese, Snow Geese, Mallards, and even raptor species like the beautiful bird of America, The Bald Eagle! I'll return more this year. I hope you get the chance throughout the year to see the changes in water level, migrations, and even get in some fishing at local nearby lakes, ponds and marshes!"
"This place is wonderful this time of year. Tons of Seagulls and different species of Cranes and other birds stop here as they are migrating south for the winter. National Geographic was out there a few weeks ago filming a special about them. There is another pond on the other side that is great for fishing. Every few minutes, literally you'll see a huge fish splash out of the water. I've never seen such a thing. We caught several good sized catfish. Nice relaxing place to enjoy. The only downfall is that there is no shade. So be prepared."
"Beautiful natural wetlands of the Illinois River located between Lewistown and Havana. A lot of waterfowl pass through this area so if you're a nature watcher this is a good place for you. Bald eagles are also present in this area."
"Never disappoints, my favorite spot for viewing wildlife in central Illinois."
"Emiquon is a wetland bird watchers dream. Raptors in winter and spring. Cranes, coots, ducks and herons to name a few. Beautifully restored wetlands."
