Buffalo Lake National Wildlife Refuge
About the Business
Buffalo Lake National Wildlife Refuge, located in Canyon, Texas, offers visitors a chance to escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life and immerse themselves in the beauty of nature. This park provides opportunities for wildlife watching, hiking, camping, and picnicking. Visitors can explore the auto tour road and observe a variety of bird species, including neotropical migrants like warblers, flycatchers, tanagers, and orioles. The grasslands are home to black-tailed prairie dogs, burrowing owls, Cassin's and lark sparrows, and bald and golden eagles. Additionally, visitors may encounter snakes, horned lizards, and ornate box turtles. The refuge works to conserve and protect fish, wildlife, plants, and habitats for the benefit of the American people. "Great little place to spend the afternoon, especially hiking!"
"I like free camping. Hardly anyone here. Very quiet. Seems to be a lot of flies for some reason. Needs more lizards."
"Simply beautiful and wild."
"Have never seen water in it till today. I am also glad to say they have reopened the campground for self contained camping. No facilities other than restrooms. $2 a night for camping. Gates close at 8pm and open at 8am. No campfires or charcoal. Gas grill only."
"I grew up in Hereford, TX and had never been to Buffalo Lake, that I can recall. Those West Texas sunsets."
