Reviews of St Clair County Animal Services
"I only adopt sheltered dogs and it has been a great relationship with them except for the last one. She actually broke the ulna in my right arm. My issue is with the warden at animal control. The day I was released from the hospital, he called questioning me about the whereabouts of the dog. I didn’t know and he was angry and intolerant of that. He threatened me with action if I didn’t visit the office asap. Didn’t say for what purpose. His tone of voice was rude and intolerant. He should not be in a post where he has to interact with the public."
"I brought a cat in, that jumped in my car and had no collar; I even got it checked for a microchip. They told me they couldn’t take it, they were full, even though their sign said they couldn’t take dogs. I had put up info about the cat, to see if anyone was missing it. They said to take it back to where I found it and let it go outside. Im sorry but with how cold it is outside, that is inhumane. The lady I spoke with was rude and didn’t even seem at all compassionate. When I took it in, until I could get it taken to the shelter, it was so hungry. So odds are, it was struggling. I get if the shelter is full, but I could have at least got a recommendation on where I could take it."
"Arrived to this location after our newly adopted dog (3 days) bit a friend that was over. My wife and myself were terrified we did not have enough money to cover the desired stay and she would have to be put down. We were frantically trying to explain the situation and that we didn’t know what to do. Two members of staff were formal, but there were several that were demeaning and laughed at my wife when she attempted to explain that we had recently gotten the dog. We were told that our German Shepard mix was supposed to be acclimated in our house for 6 months before she should be allowed in public. As a high-energy working dog, we didn’t want her trapped in our smaller apartment all day, let alone with our cats. We were also told that “there haven't been rabies cases in 50 years”. Which is a lie. There are still a very small number of humans contracting rabies. Which was the reason we were there. Our human friend had potentially contracted rabies from this dog and we had wanted to solve this as easily as possible. However even after being told they would need our friend’s info and our own (due to there not being a lot of room without a bite record) they refused to take the dog in. There were some professional folks, but my wife went to several other locations and they were much kinder and informative."
"I’ve called about the neighbors dog yesterday about neglect. They leave him outside in 80+ degree heat or in pouring rain, this is every day for HOURS while the homeowner is at work. No food, and no water. When he’s inside, they keep him in a kennel in the basement, upon taking water over to him yesterday I took notice of being able to see his spine and ribs. I called about it and they directed me to the police department who came to do a Wellness Check but nothing came of it. This is ridiculous, this poor dog is being neglected and there isn’t anything anyone is able to do. You all need to do your jobs and help the animals in need, police as well."
"Went in here mid-week on a hot June day and received the exact information I was looking for when my cat went missing. The staff that helped me was informative, to-the-point, and helpful. The space was clean and well taken care of."
