Jackson Hewitt Tax Service 201 Mattes Avenue, Vandalia, IL 62471

"I've been coming to this location for the better part of 10 years and today is the last time. I called the Salem office to see if I needed to make and appointment and was told that Vandalia didn't do appointments. So we headed the 20 min. into Walmart and sat down on the bench. This was at about 4:40. There was one person getting taken care of so I figured it would be no problem getting the taxes done today. At about 5:00 the lady asked if we were waiting for her and gave us the form to fill out. At about 5:15 another lady walked in and stood around waiting and about this time the tax lady got done so we walked over. The lady that came in well after us walked over as well and said she had a 5:00 appt. We told the tax lady that we were told that there wasnt appt at this location and were told well she is here and that if we wanted to wait around she would be there till 6. Like i said before always had good service and never really cared about the price but when you waste my time is where I draw the line. I will tell everyone I know that this year is not the year to go to Vandalia."

"I’m going to start this negative review with the only positive thing to say. The lady at the vandalia Walmart location is an extremely friendly person and good at her job. Onto the negative parts now. 1st of it was like $573 to file jointly?? That’s a bit ridiculous. Secondly, the “prepaid card” they give you for a tax advance and what your taxes are directed deposited into is an absolute joke. Wouldn’t let a single bank atm withdraw money, EVEN MONEYPASS ATMS, which are supposedly the atms used for zero fee transactions. EVERY single atm except a gas station atm would say card is incorrect or something to that effect. Couldn’t even buy something at Walmart with the card to get cash back…. So I ate $20 in fees using a gas station atm for $1500 cash back. Figured oh it’s just because it’s the temporary card. Nope not the case, get the actual card and activate it. Same exact problem. No moneypass bank worked to withdraw money, again got the incorrect card at every atm. Found one bank that actually took the card and let me withdraw $1000 at a time so at least I didn’t get smoked with fees this time. Oh just call the number on the back of the card to figure out the problem. Ya don’t do that, you just sit on hold for over 20 minutes and nobody answers. That’s when you actually figure out the ignorant automated service they have to finally figure out how to even connect with a representative. Rant over. Take your business to H&R Block or file online yourself. Save yourself the hassle, fees, and outrageous filing costs."

"I have had my taxes done by Jackson-Hewitt out of Walmart in Vandalia for three years running and I have never had an issue. Both ladies that have helped me not only were great at their job but actually had a personality and talked while I was waiting. I couldn't really ask much more."
