"We had our taxes done for several years by Mr. Byrd. The first year we had them done was 2015. At the end of 2017, we got an audit from the IRS for our 2015 return. Mr. Byrd told us he would get it straightened out. When the IRS contacted us again, Mr. Byrd said the IRS needed us to resubmit some documentation. We provided it and Mr. Byrd said he sent it certified not once but twice. We heard nothing from the IRS for months. He assured us he had records of all contact with the IRS. We only heard back this year when the IRS seized our state and federal refunds. We contacted Mr. Byrd and as always, he asked us to fax him what we received from the IRS so he could contact the IRS yet again. After that, we heard nothing from him. We left another voicemail to ask for any documented correspondence he told us he had made. We know he got the message, but all he mailed us were copies of 2 letters he claims he sent asking for an extension and a hearing. Nothing from the IRS, no receipts of certified mail, no explanation on a hearing. The IRS is now demanding a huge payment with no acknowledgement of receipt of paperwork and we will have to contact them ourselves in hopes of at least a hearing. We never ignored the IRS, we assumed Mr. Byrd was responding on our behalf. The fact is we paid to have our taxes done professionally so there would be no mistakes. We are not sure why the IRS did not respond when we gave them the documents they asked for. We were not given any hearing or appeal. We are not sure if Mr. Byrd made an error in calculating or why it took so long to get the audit. The late fees and interest and penalties are substantial. We still have not gotten a return call from Byrd or the promised documentation. Regardless, he assured us he was in contact with the IRS and that he was trying to get a field hearing. We provided him with all requested information when he prepared our taxes. We even owed and paid the year in question. We did not have any reason to believe we owed more than what Byrd calculated on the return. So now we are faced with a huge expense that may not even be justifiable. I would have given Byrd Accounting zero stars if that would have been an option. I am sorry I didn't use turbotax, we assumed paying a pro was better. We were wrong."
