Reviews of Yorktown Watch & Jewelry Repair
"We went there to replace a watch battery, and they tried to charge us $50, then we proceeded to walk away and the guy goes $40 since you're first customer. We went somewhere else and we got charged $9.50 for battery replacement. This place JACKS up the price unnecessarily."
"I have used Yorktown Watch & Jewelry Repair to replace batteries and exhange watch bands; they have always done a great job, however I brought a gold watch in 10.30.23 to replace the battery; he quoted me $250.00; I did not ask to clean it. I questioned the price and walked out. NOT COOLl! I went to Stone's Jewelry in Wheaton, $8 dollars to replace the battery. Shameful on so many levels. I will probably not go back ever again. VERY NOT COOL! Please check pricing before you give them any business!"
"Okay. So, I definitely rolled the dice by deciding to drop my watch here for service. I'll admit I didn't do the proper research beforehand. And I really thought I was going to get the runaround because of all the negative reviews. The watch serviced was a Tissot diver with a automatic mechanical movement - so it is a somewhat decent watch. I had managed to bend the handset somehow by doing a normal time adjustment. Also, one of the indices had fallen of when the minute hand twisted. The hour and second hands were surprisingly undamaged. I drop off the watch on a Saturday evening and the shopkeeper tells me to return in 20 mins. Perfect, right? I come back but he then tells me that the watch needs to be sent to another shop because they need a specialized machine to straighten the minute hand. I'm totally fine with that. And he says it should be ready by 5pm the following day. BTW, he never gives me a paper record of the shop receiving the watch or any description of the service. We only had a verbal agreement of the price and service - along with me giving him my mobile number. NEVER DO THIS! Like I said before, I rolled the dice. The next day I receive a text in the early afternoon that the watch isn't ready but NO explanation why. I start to get worried. I text him on a Tuesday asking about the progress and I receive a response saying "It's not ready". NO explanation again. Now I'm getting really worried, I keep rereading those negative reviews and beginning to think about the possibility of filing a police report. Another 2 days pass and I send out a text saying I will need the watch back soon and that gets ignored. I don't receive any texts that day. I'm mad and I've had enough. So I decide to head back to the mall to express my displeasure. I walk in and ask the shopkeeper for my watch back. He apologizes and tells me it's out for service. He also says that the owner of the shop will text about something relating to the condition of the watch. I ask him a few times to clarify and the shopkeeper says it's about an observation. I ask more questions to clarify and he assures me the watch is okay and says "we service Rolex, it's okay". I guess this was to give me piece of mind that since they service super high end watches that mine would be okay? Okayyy… They end up texting me the next day saying the watch is ready without any special message from the owner. I go and pick it up. The watch was in great condition and fully rehabilitated as far as could tell. I gave the shopkeeper some desperately needed feedback about my experience described above. I told him to think about how things looked through my eyes as a customer. I also told him that this was first experience with them and to remember that I don't know him. It's common courtesy and good business to give any details about how the repair is progressing and to give a realistic expectation of when the job would be completed. He promised 20 mins originally. That turned into 6 days. He was apologetic and I accepted. I also can't fault the work that they did - it's completely restored and looks fantastic. He explained that he needed time to observe the watch movement, which is reasonable and makes a lot of sense. So, in summary, I gave these guys 4 stars because of the successful result. I would have given them 5 if they were more forthcoming about the details about the service. And, if they had given me actual proper paperwork for it!"
"I went there to get two watch batteries and one link added to a watch. To do the link, they charged me $29, to do the battery in a Swiss Army Watch $19.I thought this included both batteries, it didn't. The lady then told me that my nicer watch would cost $69 to properly replace the battery. It is a $400 watch so I actually thought for a second that it might be correct. Fortunately my spidey sense went off and I said I would just call the mfg and see if they could replace it. Well, the mfg charges $10. Nothing special to do this, the lady, like on the previous charges was just trying to take advantage of me. I have about 60 watches and am always adding to my collection. I WILL NEVER USE THIS PLACE AGAIN. Obviously a bunch of thieves running this place. This is the first time I have ever went to complain about a business. I wish I had googled them first, apparently this is their game and a sad one at that."
