"A mixed experience here! Seamless booking and check- in experience. Booked a two bedroom apartment for 11 nights for RSNA. Comfortable short-stay apartment in a good location for public transport and nearby tourist activities. Cleanliness was adequate - somewhat grimy windowsills and skirting boards but clean floors,, bathroom, kitchen, appliances and bedding. Apartment maintenance could be improved. When we arrived, neither the TV nor clothes drier were working. The TV was fixed promptly and the staff member (Brian) was very pleasant and helpful. The clothes drier could not be fixed and remained inoperable during our stay. Acceptable arrangements were not provided for the duration of our stay (contacting them to access an empty apartment each time we wanted to do laundry as was suggested to us fell well short of the promised convenience of In-apartment facilities available at any time) As “compensation” we were given a $150 Sonder credit which we cannot use as we are not planning any northern hemisphere travel in the next year. A request for a refund to my credit card has not been actioned. The other note of caution to potential clients is that despite paying in full for accommodation, without any notification to me an additional charge of US$300 was made to my credit card three days before arrival - apparently as a security deposit, although the Sonder website states that this is only required for stays of over 30 days. The availability of in-apartment laundry facilities was a major factor in choosing apartment rather than hotel accommodation and the Sonder experience did not meet our expectations."
"We were in Unit 503. Spacious for a Chicago apartment. Double beds in every bedroom - all of ours had mattress toppers that were foam, 4+ pillows, and were low profile frames just off the ground. This was a 4 bedroom, 3 full bath unit. Some issues for Sonder to fix: toiletries are in bathrooms but either used partially or broken so you can't use them (in the shower for example); elevator is so slow and only one was in service while we were staying; the unit was "cleanish" - everything was covered in a thin layer of dust or worn out (like cupboards that don't close, light switch casings broken/cracked, doors don't close) - some bedrooms under the beds was very questionable, like socks from previous tenants, garbage, etc; oven, fridge, sink, coffee maker, pans (there were not many-kitchen is not "fully stocked" but there were lots of plates, silverware and cups - just nothing really to cook with) and garbage disposal were dirty. We got into the unit and did a quick cleaning of our own, but honestly, that's not our job. The front door of this unit was sketchy and needs to be replaced anyone could open it without the code if they were so inclined to lean into it a bit. To be clear, the luggage storage at this unit is a closet that EVERYONE has access to; it is not private and was just left open by guests most of the time we were coming and going. Leave valuables at your own risk. No windows have blackout curtains, they do have blinds though for appropriate city-living privacy. Sonder at this location has a lot going for it: the towels, sheets and pillows were hospital clean thankfully. Mattresses and pillows had covers on them. Hangers in closets were plentiful. Close to all modes of transit. Walkable from the train station. Easy to access code. The rate is super cheap for right downtown. The 503 unit backs up to a one way side street and the Chicago Public Library so it's not very loud (for the city). If you are not used to city noises at all hours, bring some ear plugs. It's worth noting that two of the four bedrooms do not have walls that go to the ceiling and are located right off the kitchen. The other two bedrooms had full walls and windows facing outside. Garbage is located on every floor for convenience. The building advertises a gym, but for the life of us we could not find it on site; however, we also didn't ask for help on this."
"Absolutely horrible! We are in unit 202 (3 bedroom, 2 bath) and it is impossible to sleep in the place. There appears to be some industrial stuff on the first or maybe third floor. The noise is horrific, even the bed is shaking. There is also horrible noise from the city, since the building is old and no renovations were done to improve things. One of the bedrooms has streetlights shining right into it and there are no black out curtains. The coffee maker was dirty from the previous guest. The apartment is in horrible disrepair. Air conditioners do not work properly. Sometimes give an error, other times will auto shut off after a little while. The place is just flat out filthy. Old dirt stains everywhere, including furniture. Just flat out disgusting. The fridge looks so dirty on the outside it is kind of gross to touch it… do not book! Chicago loop is actually fairly small, book a better place even if it is a little further north or south. Also this appears to be literally the filthiest block on the whole street, with tons of people just loitering and screaming outside at all hours."
"This was a great experience! There were four of us. Four bedrooms three baths. Super clean. Great location. The beds were comfortable. The kitchen was nicely stocked. Each bedroom had its own individual air conditioning unit which was very nice. It was a great place to base our vacation for 3 days. Starbucks , 7-Eleven and a small grocery store we're all close by. And it's in the heart of the loop so everything else is right there. I'll definitely stay again when I come back to Chicago."
"Beds needs better fitting sheets that fit. Air conditioner could use a clean as well as the bed pad. Kitchen stocked with dishes, glassware and pans. Solid kitchen for you to use. Roof access is cool too. Entry smells of perfume. Clean entry foyer area. I like the keypad entry at the door. Easy bus and blue line train. Liquor/wine store just a few walkable blocks. Food: toco bell to your right."
