"Our preparer is Fantastic"

"I have always filed online, this year I decided to meet with a tax preparer because I have multiple state tax returns to file and I did not know how to do it. I was quoted an average price of $275.00 but told it all depends on the specific client needs, I understand this. I arrived 15 minutes prior to my appointment. I met with Kristen. After sitting down and briefly looking over my W2s she tells me that the fee will be $400.00, with no further explanation. I have to ask her what the fee breakdown is instead of her breaking it down for me when she quoted me the $400.00 I nicely tell her that is significantly more then we had anticipated and could I call my husband to make sure he wanted to continue with h and r block. My husband doesn’t answer so I tell her that I would like to continue. I tell her that Illinois has a reciprocal state tax agreement with Wisconsin, a basic state tax fact that she had to call to get clarification on. She tells me I need to leave my forms for her to work on and she will call me on a few days, no specific time, just a few days. She calls me back an hour later and tells me that there are inconsistencies in my taxes and she does not feel comfortable signing off on my taxes and that I can come pick up my W2s. At no point did she ask about my life, my job etc. I wasted 2 hours of my life trying to file taxes with H and R block and was called shady and asked to go elsewhere. I look forward to working with a tax professional and will never file with H and R block"

"She got the job done and quickly. The only thing I'm disappointed on is how much it costed and that it wasn't explained to me. The advertising starts at 80$ and then its like 39$ extra for direct deposit. It wasn't explained/ clear to me why it ended up costing 474$. I did message her to ask if the price was supposed to be 80$(which is advertised) and she just responded that it is 474 but didn't explain why the extreme high cost). I did accept the forms and cost due to wanting my taxes done asap and not having to go elsewhere, but I've never in my life have paid that much. I will just do them on my own next year due to the high cost. Other than that, she did great and I'm happy I didn't have to do it myself this year."
