Reviews of OSF Saint Francis Medical Center
"I am saddened by the poor care my older female cousin received at OSF St. Francis in Peoria during her 6 day stay. I am a pharmacist myself, and have years of hospital and clinical pharmacy experience in other locations, and I know what constitutes good care. I have rounded on, and reviewed charts and advised medical care for many hundreds of patients. During her 6 day stay, I was literally awestruck at the nearly third-world type experience that I observed. Peoria's St. Francis gives care that is considerably sub-par. Here are just a few of the reasons for the one-star review: My cousin's reasons for admission was gastrointestinal. I requested 3 times for a GI consult, and the patient herself requested this; a rude young physician (I don't want to name him) was arrogant, condescending, and said the GI consult would be denied. My cousin walked into the hospital on day one; she is somewhat elderly, but was never exercised or walked once by any staff during her 6 day stay.True, she had an IV pole, but they have rollers. During the six days, she did not have a PT consult, OT consult, Pharmacist consult, or Dietitian consult (her problems were gastrointestinal.) My cousin also requested a needle biopsy of an observed mass on her pancreas, and was told that a biopsy would NOT be done. My cousin is a most dignified lady, and has an especially sweet and kind disposition--not a complainer. Her primary physician, who practices in Iowa, called to request an endoscopy, which some OSF provider declined to order. With my mind still whirling with unanswered questions, her charge nurse announced that she was to be sent home in a weakened state on day #6 with a new case of Covid. My cousin had tested positive on the day of her discharge; she was scheduled to be dismissed, and I was told by her charge nurse that her dismissal papers were signed and her discharge time and date were not negotiable. We knew that "home" would be better care than St. Francis regardless, so we put on our N95 masks and took her home (Is this how covid spreads?) The care that she received truly did dismay me. I am sorry to say this, but as for myself and my family. we will definitely not be using this hospital for any medical needs in the future."
"Oh my god. I have never been to a bad osf location, but this experience was awful. I was coming in with moderate gallbladder pain and I got in pretty fast. I got some bloodwork done and had an IV inserted, but it wasn't tightened all the way and my blood was dripping all over my hands and jeans as the nurse asked me to hold it while he got another bandage because the one he previously tried to apply stuck to itself. I was already irritated because he didn't even apologize for the mess. They took me back and checked my organs, said nothing was wrong according to what they saw. Then they gave me some pain medication through my IV and just forgot about me! I waited over an hour before I pressed the call button to ask if anymore tests were being ran- because if not I'm ready to go. They said there were no tests ordered "but that could change". A nurse went to get an update and never came back. I eventually walked out of the room and told a nurse I wanted my discharge papers so I could leave. I got them right there, it took him less than 15 seconds to get them. The nurses just seemed to be chilling. It is 5am when I'm walking out and I got there near 2am. I would've been there longer just sitting there if I didn't get up myself. I left STILL in pain, and to top it off I had to take my own IV out! This place is rediculous, I'll just go to the one in my hometown next time. This is supposed to be a hospital, could've fooled me."
"Staff was wonderful to my elderly Mother in her EOL situation. Very caring and sensitive. Well run, very clean, and staff was very proficient. Easy to get to. Cafeteria is open 24/7 and offers a good selection, although quality is a bit suspect at times."
"It’s hit or miss here. They said I met sepsis criteria, yet I had to wait over 5 hours, so I guess it wasn’t sepsis. They mixed me up with another person too! My IV pump was alarming very loudly for 45 minutes at 3am and there was no one to be found, I was afraid I’d wake up others. I was in the CDU, so I’m sure everyone was tending to an emergency down the hall in the ED. On the positive-everyone was very kind and attentive."
"I been in the hospital about 4 days now. Everyone on this ground floor unit has been amazing. The nurses and CNAs are very friendly. Making sure I had anything and everything I may need while on the mend to getting better. I’m extremely thankful to each and everyone who works here that has taken part in my care. Great care provided, nice nurses, the food has kinda went down hill from the last time I was here but it’s still not as bad as Methodists food lol"
