About the Academy for Global Citizenship
The Academy for Global Citizenship, located at 4942 West 44th Street in Chicago, Illinois, is a unique institution that serves as a health-focused school. Founded in 2005, AGC is not only a Chicago Public School but also an incubator of educational innovation and a teacher training institute. Over the years, AGC has trained over 10,000 educators and impacted 5 million students globally.
AGC's mission is to cultivate the next generation of mindful leaders through a whole-child learning model that emphasizes social justice, environmental education, entrepreneurship, dual language learning, and wellness. As an International Baccalaureate and Dual Language elementary school, AGC offers an inquiry-based educational program that encourages experiential, nature-centric, and hands-on learning.
The institution provides a relevant, engaging, and challenging educational program for all children, regardless of their learning differences. Students at AGC become environmentally and internationally minded, learning how their choices impact their community and the world. The school focuses on the total growth of the child by addressing social, physical, linguistic, emotional, and cultural needs alongside academic development.
AGC is a community of learners, professionals, families, and teachers who work collaboratively to support high achievement and foster a love for learning. The institution respects and embraces children's natural curiosity, the natural systems of the world, and the responsibility to make positive change.
AGC's hub includes a K-8 public school, an early childhood center, a community health care center, a three-acre urban farm, a neighborhood marketplace, teaching kitchens, and various community wellness amenities. The Emeril Lagasse Foundation has announced it will open its newest Culinary Garden & Teaching Kitchen at AGC, enriching the lives of children through a fun and fresh perspective on food.

Reviews of Academy for Global Citizenship
"From losing kids (CPD will be involved next time as this isnt the first), to forcing their curated diet on students, AGC has shown a lack of care for their students and parents. AGC appears to instil an "I'm better than you because I'm wealthier then you attitude" amongst the children which in turn directly causes issues with AGCs mission values. This school was chosen due to AGCs proclaimed inclusivity and yet makes it difficult for the same demographic they claim to advocate for. Staff and teachers are rude and speak to you as if you're incompetent. They have taken no accountability for wrong doings on their part. The school as a whole is not aware of its exculsion of the socio-economic population. This creates a non diverse and problematic environment for the child and the family. From a parental prospective, I highly dislike AGC and will be considering alternative options for my children's educations. Additionally, I see a huge safety concern with having a public clinic attached to the building as this poses a risk to the saftey of our children, regardless of whatever safe guards AGC might claim to have in place I can see this becoming an issue. I can assure that AGC will be held accountable in the event something tragic happens. Also...what happened to that drug addict on the corner a few weeks ago who was high? He was building stuff with large rocks and harassing passerbys. I hope he's not out there the next times students are being let out... 2/5 stars would not reccomend. Nice building I guess... so maybe 3/5 stars? Really feel like this school was built with the intention of covering up something."
"My four children attended AGC and I will forever feel grateful for the phenomenal teachers and staff. My kids all had different learning needs and I was so impressed with the way the teachers adapted the curriculum to support them. I also appreciated the amazing communication and really enjoyed how connected I felt to their learning due to the school's platforms for keeping parents informed and engaged. I highly recommend AGC as it's such a special place within the CPS ecosystem and has such an incredible mission!"
"I feel so fortunate to work along some of the most passionate and dedicated colleagues in the field of education. Teachers are extraordinarily invested and our Principals are so committed to going above and beyond to support the diverse array of needs among our students and families. It's an incredible honor to collaborate with some of the best minds on our planet to reimagine the future of learning and to cultivate an equitable future for all."
"I was first introduced to AGC 12 years ago when asked to speak to their students about technology and innovation. Since then I have watched the incredible progress of the students I spoke to - many of whom have ended up in top-tier Universities across the world. The school focuses on the whole student - not just rote memorization - but helping them prepare for the complex world in which we live. Spectacular leadership, incredible teachers, a thriving community full of diverse learners, and simply great outcomes. Did I mention it's free? Yep."
"Incredible blend of mission, purpose and academic achievement. The founding team set forth a goal to educate the whole child and create the next generation of global leaders for our ever-changing world. The new campus opens in a few short months with a 3-acre urban farm, 600 chickens, and an incredible new facility for learning in new ways. And since it's a public school, it's all free! Amazing on so many levels."
