Reviews of Cardinal Joseph Bernardin Catholic School
"The absolute worst principal and assistant principal currently who were brought in last year. They have really changed the school community that was once enjoyable. I would not recommend sending my child here due to administration issues across the board. The amount of students that have left is devastating. The amount of teachers that have left is sad. The archdiocese needs to really look for more competent candidates."
"I submitted an application for my son to attend this school. I read the directions and was gathering the required items to provide the school. I received the rudest call from I’m assuming the secretary later that same day. The intent may have been to help me “navigate” the system, but the impact was an overwhelming sense of unwelcome. I withdrew my application instantly, and will seek a Catholic education elsewhere. If this is how they treat people who are seeking a religious foundation for their children they should be ashamed."
"Adam M. left a review pretty much discarding student reviews yet how could you do that. They are the only ones that can tell the truth. It is very sexist against men and clearly favor the women. At graduation we chose a song to sing at the mass. Originally, me and my friends had asked for "Good Riddance" by Green Day and after being checked by the teachers it was said that would be the song. Some of the rich girls didn't like it so they started complaining and got their way almost immediately. Almost every boy wanted "Good Riddance" yet when the girls didn't like it, it was switched. The boys didn't have any say in it whatsoever. They don't treat you well and the current principal always takes the teachers sides even if they are very clearly in the wrong about any subjects. Yes, the education is good, but I did not find it worth it based on the experience I had there. In middle school years they put you into three classes or so. These classes aren't specifically said that they are divided based on intelligence yet they very clearly are. My friend and I were put into the bottom class after having average grades. While not the best they were not terrible. The bottom class was filled with special needs students and was much smaller than the other two. We went a lot slower and got more hands on attention. I say we but my friend and I, not having any problems with school and getting mostly A's and B's here and there were like outsiders in the class and felt very discouraged because of how slow we were going. Our other friends were in other classes and were always way ahead of us. They never bothered moving us up and we were stuck in a class that was for people way below our education meanwhile the kids in the higher classes began dropping in grades and my friend and I ended up with much higher grades than other students in the A class and B class (our's being the C class.) They restrict you to an absurd level and have multiple rules that can just be such a pain to deal with and have absolutely no real meaning or reason other than just being controlling. All of this for the cost per year? Wish I could have known what it would be like beforehand."
"Love this school. Love that they are progressive with their education and teaching staff. It’s so nice to go to a parent teacher conference and actually get information about my child’s academic skills. My kids are so happy here. Highly recommend CJB!"
"Some teachers are nice, some are not. It's "glory days" (for lack of a better term) ended when the new principal arrived. Pre-K and elementary have great teachers and programs. As for middle school years...not so much. The teachers aren't very understanding that middle schoolers are still children. They also section students off these years into three groups. The name them by color, but it could be more accurately termed "we think you're smart", "we think you're average", and "we have no hope in you". To this school, if you get a B- in English, it doesn't matter if you're a genius in math or science. You're categorized in the lower group. To make a long story short, they don't recognize at all that everyone has different strengths and weaknesses. So rather than placing this student into a higher level math, with an average english class, they place you in the lowest group for all classes. This can really cause some smart students to fall behind and even stop trying in school due to a lack of interest. Facilities and younger years education is great, but the middle school program has gone far down hill since the school's opening."
