Reviews of Rockdale School District 84
"I like most of the staff, and the principal Peterson retired last school year 22022-2023, 2023-2024 it's a new principal"
"Under exemplary leadership and with a staff overhaul, Rockdale School could return to what it was eighteen years ago when my oldest (son) attended. I have attended several award ceremonies at Central HS since my kids won academic awards or graduated at the top of their class. I'm always happy/proud to see kids from Rockdale Village representing with winning scholarships, winning awards for excelling, accomplishing incredible milestones, or even being the speaker on behalf of the graduating class. As I speak with them, Central HS is always credited for putting them on the path to success. My kids went from poor test scores to above benchmarks, from minimal, barely passing grades to AP/honors classes after leaving Rockdale school. Many of these Rockdale kids have a ton of potential to go on and accomplish amazing things in life. It's a shame. Hopefully, things will improve."
"Welp, I came back. I was hoping that my opinion would have changed as I got older, but that wasn’t the case. I was put into a block class my freshmen year because I was led to believe that my mathematic abilities were not up to par with my peers. This was advised from this school, but yet…it turns out I didn’t need it! Actually, it’s quite the contrary ;) I was told that I didn’t meet the requirements to be in the class and as a result, I was switched into a regular class halfway through the year. As my high school education continued on, I received multiple awards for my academic performance including honor roll for a couple semesters, and I was giving an award on the day of graduation for my GPA. The problem was not me, it was the education system that was put in place in this school. Please listen to my review because if you would like to send your Jr. High student to this school, I would strongly advise against it. The way I used to view myself whenever I attended my school was absolutely horrid, not to mention the way I was treated by some of the staff members. They would make comments about me not being able to complete my work, but I actually was going to therapy to work through my CPTSD, which led to my work not being my priority. I apologize for any inconveniences I caused these teachers, but I was a child. A child who did not deserve to have a teacher slam her hands on the table over not being able to solve a math equation, and a child who shouldn’t have been left to sob in hallways alone because she feels worthless for not being able to do long division. Absolutely terrible. However, it’s pushed me to get my Bachelors of Arts in psychology as a result, so I can work with children and make sure that nothing that I experienced ever happens to them."
"The Jr. High teachers at this school are nothing but a bunch of grown up children. They are antagonizers and bullies. Instead of being role models and mediators they are instigators and gossipers. They pick on kids to prove a point of authority to alleviate their own insecurities. Instead of instilling a peaceful environment for the kids, they make it a hostile environment; with an attitude of, you have to deal with me because I’m not going anywhere, that kids dread coming to. Most of the elementary teachers here are great but that group of Jr. High teachers are horrible and they know who they are."
"Good school! But as a former student I would say that some of the teachers like to pick their battles with students. Mrs. Walls, Mr. Olson, Mrs. Kelch, the lunch supervisor, and of course Mr Peterson are the best. Mr Peterson is a good principal, he can be friends with you but when you do something wrong he do what ever other principal do. I learned a lot from some of the teacher there. I strongly recommend this school if you want your child to have a wonderful education, and make lot of friends!"
