"We started using Republic in January of 2021 at $60 per quarter. By March of 2022, our bill had increased to $66. No big deal, but in June of this year it jumped up $32 to $98, and September saw a small increase of $3. December's bill arrived and it's another $17 increase. That's $52 in 9 months. Unacceptable! Now they want to punish us for finding another company by charging $45 just to pick up their can. One of the most unethical business practices I've ever come across."
"Terrible experience with Republic Service. I got a Gravity Bar installed and it took them 2 weeks to come get it installed and then they installed it wrong the first time where the dumpster was shut closed and I couldn’t open because the bar was rusted out. I called back right away telling them about the situation and it took them an entire week to come by again and then they fixed it wrong again the second time…The gravity bar opened even if there was a lock on it . It took them another few days to come by and fix it. Then when I reduced the pick up frequency of my dumpster someone in their department didn’t reduce my bill to reflect it. Just an overall frustrating experience for me to need to call constantly to get them to fix things that should never happen in the first place. Also the customer service line has a huge wait before you can get to an operator"
"No issues with actual trash pickup. Issues are with Republic’s sales practices, rates, billing, and customer service departments. In a word all of those were horrible. We switched to Republic and also got my grandparents to switch to them after we were contacted by a Republic salesman. We were told a certain rate, no container fee, first month free, and that rates should not go up. First bill, we were charged for everything. The salesman quit answering calls as soon as we had issues. First person we spoke to at customer service didn’t fix the issues and we were charged a late fee. Finally got it fixed. Within a year, rates kept increasing. Finally got that fixed. Then, my grandparents passed away and the executor of their estate sent repeated requests with adequate documentation to have service ended. It was never resolved. Republic called my personal phone for 6 months regarding my deceased grandparents account. 3 people at Republic promised to remedy the situation, and never did. Soon after that, rates started going up again. Called in to have rates fixed and got someone who was unhelpful, rude, and unfriendly. Dropped them soon after. In summary, horrible experience."
"The highway north of our village closed due to extreme flooding June 13. Our bill was paid a day or two prior for the next three months. We set the trash by the road on Monday night, June 17 to not forget the next day's pick-up. We left on vacation the following morning. We got back from vacation Saturday, June 29 to find our trash still full. Could not do anything until Monday during business hours. When I called I was told not to worry because Tuesday was our regularly scheduled. But it was not picked up. After a few more phone calls, promises for service, and still a full trash can, I was angry and told them to come get their can and the trash and keep enough of my money to cover this last pick up. Keep in mind the highway north of our village was closed. The highway south of the village never closed. We had business as usual from our post office, and other delivery services. Republic has stations several miles to the south and to the east of us. When traveling through other towns nearby I could see emptied Republic trash cans with lids fully open. July 16, I was sent an email, with balance they said they owed me. It said "your current invoice is now available to view in your online bill account." When I clicked in all I saw was a picture of a page with the corner folded and a sad face in the middle. And I still had a full stinking trash can in front of my home. August 15, I was sent another email exactly like the previous one; except, they had shaved about $30 off the amount they owed me. Still clicking the link I still saw the same sad face on a dog-eared page. And the unemptied can was still there fermenting in the 100 degree weather we had been having. Seeing where this was headed, I went to the Better Business Bureau. The very next day the can was gone. I have to this day never recieved in the mail another invoice since the one mailed to me and paid in June. Nor have I been emailed an invoice I can actually read. No refund either."
"Very unfair business practices. I won't complain about the trash pickup; it never seemed to have any issues, hence the 2 stars instead of 1. The real problem was with their billing department. When I originally called for a quote they gave me a high price, so I told them I wasn't interested. Then someone called back with a very fair price, so I went ahead and hired them. After a while their prices seemed to creep up a few dollars every quarter with no explanation. I called and complained about this, after which they credited my account (fair enough). However, after another quarter the prices rose again. This time I had enough, so I terminated their services. The icing on the cake was when they charged me a recovery fee for their trash can. Yes, the can that they owned, that I was paying them repeatedly to use. They charge you to come get their own property, which was undamaged by the way. Please save yourself the grief and give your money to someone else."
