"Had a 10 am mani-pedi appointment. I was greeted and introduced to the technician, taken in immediately, comfortably seated, and Irma did a fantastic job! She Asked my preferences, listened, and had very pleasant conversation. Very caring, made sure water temps were right. I am very pleased with the end result. Will recommend to friends and will definitely return."
"Beware of this school. You think the price is good. But in reality you are paying for nothing. You are required to bring in all your own supplies. The equipment is old and broken and none of the teachers there actually have their teachers license. I recommend staying far far away. If I could I would give a negative star. Just ask around and you will see if you don’t believe."
"My daughter was to start barbering program in the fall as a junior. According to the school paperwork the district would pay for the program and parents are responsible for personal equipment and a registration fee of $400. Not accurate at all. Per conversation with Cindy, schools representative, the district only covers 300 hours per school year. Our school provided limited information during this process which I also hold them accountable. When I was contacted via phone by Cindy she asked me to come in and provide the payment to complete the application. My initial impression was she was overwhelmed. She walked to the front desk of the school and began asking me my daughters details to find her paperwork. She requested the payment before I could even begin asking my questions. She proceeded giving me vague instructions. A letter being mailed in July. She will have a zoom orientation after Labor Day and then will be given a date to begin. Only attending in person 2 days and week and one day via zoom. She seemed rushed and uninterested to keep me informed. My child is 15 years old and I am very much interested in knowing even the minimum, of course I’ll have questions. I do believe she was under the impression that all of our questions were answered by the school counselor. An error on his part since he is also not very well informed. To end my rant I am very discouraged with the overall enrollment process. Not providing enough details and information on the registration form. To sum up my daughter and I decided she would go a different route to begin her journey as a barber. I only wrote a fair review because I had not seen a review that discussed high school students. Initially I was very pleased when we read reviews of current graduates from all programs which is why we were optimistic. Unfortunately it did not work well for us."
"I cannot recommend this school for three types of students: Muslim, Trans, and differently abled. The policies are very restrictive. During the admissions interview I requested to be able to make my own uniforms to be more modest and include a head covering. The administrator simply reiterated that the required uniform is short sleeve and if I want long sleeve I have to wear an extra layer. She didn't comment on the headwear request. Students have to source their own black scrubs. For people with body dysmorphia and dysphoria, scrubs can be extremely triggering as they are ill fitted and often made for a limited range of body types. Also you are not allowed to leave the building during school hours, you cannot use your phone either. This would make me very anxious had I been able to attend this school. It was odd because I had so many staff telling me that ABC is willing to work with me and they're like a family all the way up until after I've just signed the contract- and then finally realized that they are not capable or willing to accommodate my disability. Even worse, they intended to hold me to the standards set by the program for non-disabled veterans and fully expected me to perform as an able-bodied individual. I told them at the very beginning that I have disabilities and they were like, "oh yeah that's fine, we understand..." But no, they really did not understand until I made it very clear what my limitations were and how I expected to compensate for them, at which time they were like, "oh, well we just don't understand how that's going to work." Honestly, I'm relieved that it didn't because in hindsight that's a huge red flag. I caution any prospective student to fully read the contract and establish realistic expectations before going very far into student loan debt or using up benefits. A different school I attended had very open policies which left me with a much more humane impression than ABC did. My teachers from that school warned us that there's plenty of other schools who just want people to sign the contract and then they look for any reasons to expel students. It's sad but I know it happens. I think that it's a better reflection of character for instructors to be transparent about those kinds of things. It's also critical for salon professionals to be able to meet each of their client's individual needs. Cosmetologists are often challenged to innovate and overcome on the fly. My old teachers would share stories like that to prepare us for all the nuances we inevitably encounter working with different kinds of people. So, if the admins at ABC are very rigid it's likely that the teachers are similarly inflexible which leaves students unprepared in certain aspects. I wouldn't want to be a customer at a salon if the tech was rushing me, glossing over my needs, or assuring me that they understand me when they don't/things are fine when they aren't. I wouldn't want to work in a salon like that either. And that is why I can't recommend this school. It's too bad that there aren't many cosmetology schools to choose from around here. This one might be okay if they deeply revise their policies. The facility seems nice and the fixtures and equipment appear to be of slightly above standard quality."
"I have been attending ABC since July (nail tech program). I am not generally a quick learner but I feel confident in my skills so far due to the amount of individual attention received from every teacher. I’m thankful to have found a school that truly cares about each individual students educations and needs and will help them in the ways that they learn best. Not many schools offer no interest payment plans and will still work with you if you are having issues."
