"My daughter recently started taking voice lessons from Stephanie Owen. After only two lessons, she decided that she didn't want to take anymore and we politely sent her an email notifying her that we understand there would be no refund for the remaining two lessons, but we we're going to discontinue services with her. She replied to our email on that same day with "Thank you for letting me know". Three days later, she has now sent me an email threatening to turn me into my military installation because my daughter was provided an accompanyment CD she made to go along with her sheet music we had purchased, which she did not make known that she need it back in her initial reply. My daughter has also told me there was never a mention of a stipulation for her keeping the CD. This is something Mrs Owen failed to communicate to my daughter and us. This is in no way professional and I would like to warn everyone who is considering lessons from her that she is the type of lady who would hold a grudge if you choose not to continue with her. I left her a voicemail after receiving this threatening email and told her all she had to do is ask for the CD and that I was leaving her this poor review because of the way she chose to go about getting the CD back. Warning do not take from this lady. I understand she has a long-standing reputation in our community also with a local private college but I cannot and would not recommend anyone take from her based off of her interaction and the way she chose to go about getting her CD back. Threatening to report me to my military leadership for theft of a CD... Really? If you do choose to take lessons from this lady, request a written contract so there are no hidden stipulations that she could threaten you with later."
"I have taken piano and voice lessons from Dr. Owen since late November 2018. She is a patient and dedicated teacher who has developed specific lesson plans for me based on my musical goals. I studied piano for 9 years (from 2nd to 11th grade) and then stopped for 29 years. She got me back on track. I re-learned how to read the bass clef and am making progress in sight reading and rhythm skills using musical software with her guidance. I was able to perform an arrangement of Beethoven’s 7th symphony (2nd movement excerpt) at the recital in April 2019. I am also able to play a couple hymns at church and look forward to expanding both my classical and liturgical repertoire. I had never taken voice lessons before studying with Dr. Owen. She has assigned specific exercises to address my singing challenges and improve my resonance. I was able to sing 2 Italian arias at the April 2019 recital: Alma del Core and Amarilli Mia Bella. I am interested in performing Renaissance and Early Baroque music, and Dr. Owen’s instruction has facilitated the vocal agility required to sing these genres of music. The singing technique I learned from Dr. Owen has also given me the courage to sing in my church choir (one day I may decide to become a cantor). I highly recommend Dr. Owen’s instruction to pianists and singers who would like to realize their potential. Her teaching is grounded in sound technique, disciplined work, and a wealth of experience. Dr. Owen is an encouraging teacher who shares her musical gift with her students and community."
"A wonderful teacher, always patient. She taught me to read music."
"I took piano lessons with my son at Dr. Owen’s piano studio. Reasonable rates for the opportunity to learn how to play the piano with no prior experience. She made learning fun and simple with an organized curriculum."
"It was very nice for my sister and she learned a lot of stuff and one day wants to be a singer but sometimes the teacher would be rude by it’s okay"
