About the Homestead National Historical Park
Homestead National Historical Park, located at 8523 Nebraska 4 in Beatrice, Nebraska, is a tourist attraction that tells the story of the Homestead Act of 1862. This act invited millions of people, including families, immigrants, single women, and freed slaves, to file claims for land. Over 10 percent of the United States was homesteaded as a result, forever changing the land that was previously inhabited by American Indian cultures.
Visitors to Homestead National Historical Park can explore the stories of migration, risk-taking, labor, sacrifice, hardship, and courage that homesteaders faced in their pursuit of the American Dream. The park offers a mini documentary about discovering family history and homestead roots, as well as the opportunity to write and submit stories based on historic homestead Land Entry Records.
The park also provides videos that complement curriculum for all age levels, making it a valuable educational resource for learning about this transformative period in American history. Visit Homestead National Historical Park to learn about the impact of homesteading on the development of the United States and the people who played a role in shaping the nation.

Reviews of Homestead National Historical Park
"Any history buff needs to check this out. Very informative!"
"An incredible experience - especially if you have homesteaders in your family tree! There are two main centers to visit: the heritage center and the education center. Both are worth your time. The rangers are always kind and helpful if you need assistance. The entire park is neat and very well-kept. Don't forget: Veterans get in for free"
"Everything about this landmark is a tribute to our history as a nation. The design of the building to resemble an old fashioned horse drawn plow is very clever. A must see especially since it represents the horrible way our government treated the native American people. The ranger that was there was very informative and helpful."
"This nicely NPS-managed historical facility has far exceeded our expectations. The museum educates visitors the history of homesteading from multiple perspectives, including the stories of the successful and less fortunate and how the combination of delusional ideology and misleading advertising of railway companies promising rich soil and ideal climate affect the native people. There is also quite a collection of photos depicting life during the 'homesteading fever'. Don't miss the Freeman schoolhouse that was operational until the 1960s, as well as learning about farming equipment in the education centre down the road. Exiting the museum through a side door leads you to a reconstructed cabin with an amazing view of the prairie."
"The museum was wonderful, full of history and information. You can also check on several computers to see if your family was one of the first home stutters in America. The hikes were wonderful full of wildlife. I spotted seven species of birds during our walk trails were easy to follow and well-maintained. Will visit again."
