"3/2/24 The daffodils are just starting to bloom so there are splashes of yellow around every bend. We took the trail around the Cyprus Lake on our way to the children's area. There is a large stand of bamboo with a trail cut through that the kiddos had to explore along the way. Lots of activities along the way to explore. There is a natural bridge made out of fallen Cyprus logs that take you across a small pond to carefully navigate. A cute little cottage made from a tree and a look out that takes you up for a view of the lake. The childrens area has a large rope spider web, music area with wooden xylophones and a drum. A sand pit with excavator and several other natural play areas."
"As it was my first time there, I really didn't know the size of the trails. It was very nice to walk in nature. With all of the plants to enjoy, there were lots of bunnies, butterflies, and birds. The staff were exceptional in their knowledge and helpfulness."
"Shaw Nature Reserve is a great place to spend a day hiking around. There's an area for kids to play, a couple of lakes, a Meramec River lookout and much more. I like spending time taking photos of the native plants around the Boscom House on the property. As part of the Missouri Botanical Gardens group along with the Sophia Sachs Butterfly House if you're a member it's free to enter. Just stop at the visitor center for a gate token first and have fun."
"Shaw Nature Reserve has become one of my favorite spots to visit at least once or twice a year. With its breathtaking scenic hiking trails, I'm always amazed by the abundance of native plants and trees that surround me. Walking down to the Meramec River offers a peaceful escape from the hustle and bustle of daily life. If you're looking for a place to unwind and reconnect with nature, Shaw Nature Reserve is definitely worth checking out."
"Nice place for hiking about 30 minutes outside of St. Louis. Had to reserve $5 tickets beforehand to limit capacity which seems reasonable. There’s a wildflower section at the beginning which my wife really liked. We didn’t really hike one specific trail, but kinda of pieced them all together. We did just over 4 miles total. It was an enjoyable day of hiking, but the trails themselves were just okay. For example, there’s a couple of overlooks that really don’t have anything to see. The main attraction seems to be the flowers and the ample space to walk without running into too many other people. But if you’re strictly looking for hiking, there are better choices nearby (Lewis & Clark Trail, Castlewood’s trails, etc)."
