"My daughter received a call for intake and spoke with Amber Foster. Making a phone call for an eating disorder is a very brave thing to do. This disorder is stigmatized and often people who suffer from it feel shame. Ms. Foster told my daughter she could not participate in the program if she used marijuana. She made her feel ashamed of this issue. I would imagine a lot of people with eating disorders and mental health issues use marijuana as a way to cope. Maybe explaining the reasoning behind this would have been more helpful. I have also found out that this is not a disqualified for this program and that is very upsetting to me. I would hope that this facility train their staff in compassion and communication skills to the potential patients calling. Again this is a tough phone call to make and could potentially be life saving. Ms. Foster maybe needs to understand this could be the difference in life or death for people calling in and speaking to her. Now my daughter is feeling ashamed and potentially will not get the treatment she needs. My daughter called back after learning that marijuana use is not a barrier to getting into the program and was laughed at by another woman who answered the phone and would not answer her question. Again , do these people have any training in speaking to people with mental health disorders? They also have her chart marked as “unwilling” to stop marijuana use. That is not what was stated by my daughter. Please do better and train your staff compassion for the people calling in. They offered her drug treatment and she told them she just wants to be able to eat. If I had to chose between the two I would much rather her eat and continue living. I am guessing this is not what this center is concerned about"
"The treatment I received from everyone in here was completely life changing. I came in with so many problems that I never thought I'd fix, my mom told me to go and that it would be good for me so I did and I'm so happy I listened. Through the entire time I felt so cared for and was taught a lot of valuable ways of thinking in group therapy that still benefit me today. My individual therapist Alyssa Kulka, was the BEST therapist I've EVER had. She went on to work in private therapy but I've never felt so cared for and understood by any therapist ever before her, and I've tried a lot. Alyssa was the sweetest person I've ever met and I'm so grateful to the world that we crossed paths here because I truly believed she helped me out of the rut I was in that I never thought I would get out of. She did so much for me, as did everyone in this building. Nicest people ever. The yoga also helped a lot and the garden in the back was really cute and calming to visit whenever I felt anxious or overwhelmed. I also love that there's an on-site psychiatrist because she helped monitor me on new meds and noticed differences in my behavior. I got on pills I needed and since then my life is a complete 180 from what it used to be. I realize I'm making this sound like a miracle the treatment I got and that's because it truly was. I feel so much better now, thank you ERC pathlight! "
"I went to both ERC and pathlight youth groups. Holly, Deandre, Krystal and Mira are all awesome. Im one year recovered, of course there are still days that can be difficult but I just remember my skills and can calm down so I dont act on urges. This place was such an important part of my life, I think i'm going to get the symbols tattooed on my ankle when I turn 18 as a reminder to stay strong, we can do hard things. I prefered ERC to pathlight my only complaint is that pathlight was very repetitive and pretty much the same thing as ERC just with less food related examples. If youve already been to ERC theres not much of a point in going to pathlight too"
"ERC literally saved my child's life and Bri and Maria are THE BEST! I've never met such a kind, caring, and supportive team. I actually was sad we stepped down to IOP because we couldn't see them anymore. My child went into PHP not eating at all and left there eating many challenge foods. The whole staff, from the front desk to the psychiatrist were amazing to work with. I wouldn't hesitate to send my child to ERC, if you are looking for treatment in the San Antonio area."
"I would've never expected to write a review on the Eating Recovery Center, but I stumbled across some old binders of when I was in treatment, and felt compelled to share my experience. Hi, my name is Kamryn, and I attended the eating recovery in 2017 for anorexia. I was 12 at the time and all I can say is they are the most supportive and loyal people I could imagine. I understand it has been so long since I have been there, but I do recall some of the names in these reviews. Karen, I remember me and Karen didn't get along very well. But it wasn't because she was rude or not supportive. She was so supportive that you would get upset because of how far she pushed you. I think Karen saved my life because she would sit outside the adolescent room and just talk to me. Sometimes we wouldn't say a word, but she was still there. I also loved Katherine the nurse, Danielle the dietitian, Dr. Levine the psychiatrist, and Bernie my therapist. I'm sure a lot of them don't work there anymore, but thank you so so much. I will forever be grateful for this establishment. You guys are true heroes!! (Also I love Landry, I hope she made it to the top of the treatment center like she hoped to)."
